View Full Version : Hulk and possible dupe pgc?

I am trying to backup the Hulk but it is giving me fits. I analyzed the ifo and I think it has a dupe pgc in the main movie. It contains 2 pgcs and both are the same length. I checked the ifo file and both contain exactly the same vobids. After further checking of the ifo file, I noticed that pgc1 has a 33 chapter points and pgc2 has only 13 chapter points. So do this movie need to be ripped by vobid or can it be ripped by pgc? Also if two pgcs are the same length and contain the same vobids but have different chapter points, are they considered dupes or not? Thanks.

Needs to be done by Vobid.
1) The movie has button over video
2) The 1st PGC is the regular movie as if you pressed Play. The 2nd PGC that has the 13 chapters is the Button Over Video version that at the beginnign of the chapter, the BoV section is shown (the Nuclear symbol).

OmegaZero: So because this needs to be done by vobid and there are only 2 vobids, do I just encode the 2 vobids and then handle the different chapter points in scenario editor in scenarist? Or can I get rid of the 2nd pgc all together? How would it be authored?

1) The movie has button over video
Button over video is no ground for having to do a movie by vobid.
Using dif4u 1.3.3 the choice will be made for you. Dif4u will analyse the structure and decide if vobid demuxing is necessary.
The way you describe it I think vobid demuxing is not necessary. Maybe you can post the structure of the ifo so I can analyse it.
But basically: if you have two dupe/semi duped pgcs you can just demux the pgc that contains all the info to recreate the other one.
Example pgcs use same vobids:
pgc1 has vobids/chapter 1,2,3,4
pgc2 has only vobids/chapter 1,2,3
Now you only extract pgc1 and use ra.in scenarist you can manually setup pgc2 using the info of the created track.
Big advantage: you don't have to manually setup the track import subs etc.

influenza: I am at work now so I don't have the ifo on me but I will post it later this afternoon. It basically looks like this:
PGC1 - same exact length as PGC2, used vobids 1,2, contains 33 chaps
PGC2 - same exact length as PGC1, used vobids 1,2, contains 13 chaps
Can you get anything from this? Hope this helps for the time being.

It sounds it can be done by pgc. Just copy and paste the ifo here when you get home and we'll see

should be possible to do by pgc

If it can be done by pgc, what must I do in scenarist? Do I just encode pgc1? How do I adjust for the differences in pgc2? What else must I do in the scenarist part?

just are duplicate PGC's... basically repeat for PGC2 what you did for PGC1 in scenarist....
of course you'll need to read the BoV guides on how to get back that stuff.....

D3: So what you are saying is just encode pgc1, run scenchap using pgc1 chapter points and then in scenario editor, create 2 titles and put pgc1 in both of them? I'm not worried about keeping the BoV part of the dvd.

Yep.. that's exactly what you want....

D3s7: I did what you said, as far as using pgc1 for both pgc1 and pgc2 in scenario editor. But when I used ifoupdate, I got this error: ERROR: Original IFO's PGC area is not large enough to hold the new PGC. ABORTING.
Any ideas?
Update: Nevermind, it works fine!

That's because now you have 32 chapters in PGC 2 instead of 13. More than likely, those 13 chapters of PGC 2 match up to ones in PGC 1, its hard for me to tell cause the IFO information is not lined up properly. So the easiest thing to do would be to go through in the scenario editor and just manually delete all the chapters in PGC 2 other than those 13.

Both PGCs use the same vobids and cells, nut have a different chapter structure. So that's why you cannot simply copy it over.
There are two possibilities in this case:
1)Only check pgc 1 in dif4u and after that use RA. Leave it like this (well implement the BOV ;) ) Use ifoupdate in adjusted cell mode
2)Only check pgc1 in dif4u and after use RA. Manually create a second PGC and use the info from track1/pgc1 to create it just like the original (so same chapters and cells). Use ifoupdate in standard mode.
Cant't wait for the european release. I just love those BOV titles. :D

influenza: I editted my post, the method I used worked. Although I didn't keep the BoV part of the movie. I just encoded pgc1 and then in scenario editor, I created 2 titles, and placed the encoded pgc1 into both titles (just like a regular dupe pgc). I then used ifoupdate regularly and it worked fine.
With what you were suggesting, is that if I kept the BoV part?

The BOV is probably only in one PGC. SO although the PGCs seemed duped (not really the case here, the PGCs have a different chapter structure) they are not. They contain the same video information, but probably the command tables of both PGC are completely different.
So for example if you start the movie without BOv PGC1 is played. if you play the movie with BOV PGC2 is played.
I had seen your remark, butw anted to answer it nevertheless for future reference ;)
And I must say it's a utter shame you left out the BOV

influenza: So what you are saying is the way that I did it, it will still play fine and all the chapter points will still be ok?
I have tested it and it played ok and the chapter points were right on. Maybe I'm confused here.
BTW, I haven't burned it yet and I have no experience doing BoV so I think I will use this opportunity to learn BoV with this movie and give it a try. How would you rate the BoV guide as far as difficulty?

Well I'm kinda biased since I wrote it myself ;) If you got a normal set of brains it should be possible :D There's only one way to find out though, just try it.

If you just duped/copied PGC1 to PGC2 then you created a wrong structure, because now PGC1 and 2 have the same number of chapters. That's not how it is in the original. Maybe you get away with this because when you only play the main movie it plays pgc1 which has the correct chapter structure. If PGC2 is played you'll see a clearly deviating structure.
Judging from the structure of the ifo you sent me I can guess that there are a total of 11 buttons to press. Each of the button will show up at the beginning of a chapter, starting at chapter 2. This is the reason why PGC 2 has 12 chapters.
Easy enough to check: activate the BOV functionality in the original and browse through the chapters. You'll have 12. Now do so in your copy you'll have 33. Clearly a difference.
It's a bit of speculation because I don't have the video_ts.ifo and the ifos of the extras it's jumping to ;). I think the BOV on this title is not too hard to reproduce BTW.
I cannot imagine that ifoupdate will let you update it like this BTW (because of the mismatch of chapters, unless you choose cell only mode)
