Well, 29.97fps is NTSC video. Most film transfers are Telecined, in which the 24fps film is converted to 29.97fps. The conversion back to near-24fps is called Inverse Telecine, or IVTC. IVTC processes convert the video to 23.976 fps...which is very close to the original framerate.

Depending on the MPEG-2 flags in the VOB stream, you will either be able to automatically IVTC by selecting Force FILM in DVD2AVI, or, you will have to use an Inverse Telecine process that analyzes the individual frames. That is likely outside the scope of DVD2AVI alone.

Please see this tutorial (www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm) for more information.

I encoded the Italian Job without any problems. Robot4rip automatically did force film and i think the film percentage was 99% (95% is the cutoff in the guides for force film). Since you are out of the US I'm not sure b/c you prob. want to encode it in PAL. You could try to activate force film and see if playback is any better. I'm not sure tho.
