View Full Version : Realtime DivX 5.1?

I have an ATI TV-Wonder Pro and I have used several other capture cards in the past. I am still a bit new to MMC especially since it seems to have some problems of it's own, but it is supposed to have the ability to capture to AVI. I tried setting DivX 5.1 to do this, but as it started capturing, it would constantly flash that encoding screen up and remove it, show, remove, show... I was getting much less than real-time using this method. Can DivX 5.1 be configured to not pop that screen or some other way to do realtime encoding? I have a P4 2.53Ghz proc so I would think I would have enough power to do this. I'm not sure if it is an MMC issue, or a DivX thing that is keeping me from realtime or not. Any suggestions?

It's the 5.1 "Feedback" window that is troubling you. To disable it, enter the DivX configuration GUI, press the "Settings" button in the lower left of the first window, then check the box labelled "Disable the feedback window."
You might prefer an older version of DivX 5, 5.1 introduced significant processing consumption -- not just the feedback window -- over previous versions of DivX 5. For more information, see the DivX Encoding Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=56).
And of course, my suggestion would be not to do DivX compression on the fly.

Thank you. I knew it had to be somewhere. I'll give it a shot. I know it would be better to do it to MPEG2 or something and let it have a couple Nth passes, I just wondered if it was possible.
Thanks again!

Do yourself a favor and try ffvfw’s mpeg4 encoder. It gives a sharper image (mpeg quantization)and much smaller file size. DIVX is no where near as good for real time capture.
If you want mpeg2, ffvfw can do that as well.
