Hi. At work ive been given lotsa material from the last century that is supposed to be encoded to .wmv9 via Canopus Procoder 2.x. (it supports avisynth 2.5x good :)) Ive skimmed the boards for some time.. but i could prolly read more thorougly :)

Anyway the material is stuff from 30s up to now originally stored on digitbeta and now stored in a .25mbit mpeg2 CBR Prorgramstream format.. (edited on a DPS system)
The material has LOOOOTSa noise as dots, stripes and so on...
Could anyone gimme a quick rundown on which filters is to be recommended (for a newbie like me:)) to start the noise reduction?
Is undot or convolution 3d good starters or is mip (shodan) a better way?
I presume the material is interlaced.. i could prolly check with .view via avisynth...

Anyway i would really apriciate any suggestions scripts wize or help u guys can give.. ill try to get a really awful example and put it on a ftp if im allowed by the content owner to let u guys fiddle with it :)

best regards teb

It is really hard to answer this question since every source is different. I suggest you read the asynth doc (filters) and vist warps site http://www.avisynth.org/users/warpenterprises/ for additional filters. Test and see what suits you which is usally a personal thing. You can try VagueDenoiser and TemporalSoften to start these two can clean up some noise, sometimes.

Hope it helps

Try posting screenshots - or even better a small sample of the source file.
