Im using DVD Shrink to back up my dvds to HD. I would like to add a trailer or two to the begining of my movies.
Is this possible. What software is needed. Is it as simple as renaming the files.
Please help.
Also what forum here would be the appropreate forum to post this.
Thank you.

I would have said 'no, it isn't that easy' a few days ago. But if u care to take a look at this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64089) u will see that a lot of things can be done with ifoedit and clever manipulation of the structure's pointers so I won't be so black-n-white.

Are you talking about using trailers that are already on the orig DVD disc, or getting them from some place else like the internet? If you are getting them of the same disc as the movie is on, just use DVDshrink, then reathor, and select the trailer file and the movie file. Than press back up.

Hi Jawz
I want to grab a trailer from a different dvd or file thats already been backed up using dvd shrink.
If I could drag that into the path while re authoring that would be easy.
Is this possible.
Thank you.

From what I've been hearing on these board (but havent tried my self), it goes something like this.
*Get both items on your hardrive (the movie and the trailer)
*Open DVD shink 3.0
*OPen file for trailer
*Then open another window in Shrink for the movie
*So now you have 2 DVD shink windows open.
*Now drag the movie into the reauthor screen of the trailer
*Make sure the movie is second on the list (if you want the movie to play after the trailer)
*Then press back up on the "trailer" window
*DVD shrink will the save the info on your hardrive with the trailer first and then the movie
*Than burn to a disc
I have not done this personlly, so I give no garentees, but this is what people have said to do. This will only work if both the movie and trailer are DVD format (it will not work if the trailer is downloaded of the internet)
The process is even easier if the movie and trailer are on the same disc.

Just make sure to watch the new "trailer/movie file" before you burn it to make sure it worked.

do you want to
a) do what jawzforlife described, in other words just take a trailer, play it and then let the movie follow,
OR
b) keep the whole disc, with the menus, the extras, etc and let a trailer, intro precede it?
this does make a substancial differences as a) can be accomplished the way jawz told you, whereas b) cannot. b) will require the method pointed out by oddyseus pointed out in the beginning of this thread - and therefore needs quite a bit more time and effort :)

Another method is to use vobedit to add a blank clip at the end of the trailer, rename the vobs in numeric order, and use ifoedit to build your ifos then burn.

Did not work with dvdshrink. I am able to back them up into one folder
but they remaine seperate files. They do not play back to back.
I tried renaming the second file but that did not work. I also tried to re re author and that did not work.
In the "view" pull down menu the option for "combine shared folders" is no longer highlighted. That would most likely do the trick if it were available.
Ive never tried infoedit. Is it easy to use.
Im not very technical at this yet so I am looking for a simple solution.
Thanks!!

Are you usning DVDshrink 3.0? I dont know if it madders, but I just tried it and it worked, heres how I did it:
I used 2 trailers instead of a trailer and movie, so my test would work alot faster.
trailer #1
open disc in dvd shrink
press reauthor button (a new window open in ver. 3.0)
drag over just the trailer
press back up, save to hardrive
combine saved trailer #1 with trailer #2 on another disc
open disc in dvd shrink (differant movie)
press reauthor button
drag over trailer from the new disc (trailer #2)
now open dvd shrink again
do open file and find the trailer #1
click on the VIDEO_TS file (trailer #1)
now drag it over to the Trailer #2 reauthor window
you should now have trailer #1 and #2 in the same reauther window
press back up, save to hardrive
I watched my final save (both trailers, same folder) with PowerDVD and the only problem I had, was I couldnt click "next" to skip to the 2nd trailer. Otherwise fine. Let me know if this worked for you.
this is what my folder looked like after I had both trailers saved in the same folder:
VIDEO_TS
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_02_0
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.VOB
all the VTS_01 is trailer #1 and VTS_02 is trailer #2

Yes thats what I did. I ended up with the same files.
My playback stops after the first trailer ends. I have to click the second trailer to play it.
Ill give this another try. I must be doing something wrong. Its possible my playback devise needs to see them numbered in order to play them together as one.
Thank you.

What player are you using?
I use PowerDVD to view movies on my hardrive. I click on open files from hardisc, then click on VIDE_TS, trailer #1 playes (chapter 1) than does right to trailer #2 (chapter 2). The only proplem I see with what I did, is I cant press next to get to trailer #2, I have to fast forword. But Trailer #2 still starts right after #1.

Its working:)
I was first using WinDVD. It was not working with that player for some reason. I could be my version.
Using another player now and it works.
Thanks again.

Alan G what you and jawzforlife have done is actually the first step in acheiving what you want. Now what you need to do, after you have the two titlesets--VTS_01_xx and VTS_02_xx--is create a Video Manager. In your file exploration program or IFO Edit it looks like VIDEO_TS_0.IFO. You can "make" one in IFO Edit, DVD Fab, or import one from another movie. Each method works, but each has its little "quirks." You need to decide which you want to do and "go for it."
This method gives you the flexibility of choosing which movie and which trailer. You are not really limited to the number of titlesets--well maybe 99, I think--on a DVD. You just need a way to manage them.
There are some threads I'd like to reference right now, but I just heard, "Dinner's ready." So I'll post again in a little while. In the meantime, I think you can navigate to the info you need by following the link in Oddyseus' post.

Great, Alan! This really is a lot of fun AND you get what YOU want. As I was mentally preparing this post, I realized that there are really only two resource documents you need. Here they are:1. maa's Guide for Making a Multiple VTS (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58791)
2. MPUCODER's "Virtual Machine" (http://www.mpucoder.com/DVD/) maa wrote his guide specifically for movies and menus authored in DVD Lab, but my guess is that it will work with any authoring application you might have. Since this is your first shot at this, my recommendation is that you follow this guide exactly. Not only does it give you the "step-by-step" of how to do this, there are a lot of little things in there that help you use IFO Edit. For example, if you double-left click on a command line, you get the hex editor, and if you right-click on that same command line you open a dialogue box through which you can edit the command with mneumonics.
I referred you to MPUCODER's site specifically becuase of the Virtual Machine Jumps and Calls graphic. It's really frustrating to play a movie in IFO Edit and right at the end get the message "Illegal Navigation Command Encountered." That's the application doing what it was designed to do, but, "What's an illegal command." The information on this site, however, is not too intuitive for a first-timer--my sore head can attest to that. But then that's what this forum is for.
I would recommend downloading and keeping for reference the call graphics and the instructions for the GOTO and SET commands. These two are the only ones that you can't edit mneumonically in IFO Edit. Armed with these tools you're ready to go.
Now, when you start and need to ask questions, please be very precise in supplying information to the forum. I would recommend that you provide not only the mneumonics to a command, but also the hex code. A "finger-slippy" may not show up in the mneumonic, but it might screw everything up--I know. The second thing I would ask is that if you get an idea that might take you down a different path, use another thread. I "changed horses in the middle of the stream" for maa when he was helping me, and it set everything back two days.
One more preparatory step. Completely author each VTS that you want to include in your final product. You can copy or move all but the VIDEO-TS.* files when you begin your project. Play each through to the end on your PC player or IFO Edit. This is really important. I didn't do that and I searched for a week looking for something in the IFO when the problem was actually the way I had authored the movie.
I think you're ready to start.
I'm shifting gears now.
My post last night was incomplete--I was thinking too much about dinner. Another very important component of a titleset is a file called VTS_xx_0.VOB. This contains your menus. Neither IFO Edit, DVD Fab, nor DVD Shrink incorporate menu tables when they create an IFO. You can import them, but they are not created. AND when you create a Video Manager, you need this file present in EACH VTS so that the manager can allocate memory for them.
Have fun and Good Luck!
