View Full Version : scenarist reports 4:3 when my file is 16:9

hey guys, i'm trying to add in a title sequence that i compressed in cce with different settings than my movie.

i made the title sequence in after effects. its a 720 by 480 file.
i encoded it as 16:9 in cce.

when i try to put it in the same vts as my movie, scenarist reports that the file is 4:3 and won't put it in the same vts. but, in the simulation window it fits and looks fine.

i had to export the QT reff file of my movie from avid as 4:3 and then encode it as 16:9 in cce in order to get the right aspect ratio for my movie.

so for the title sequence I've tried:
1)exporting as 4:3 in cce - same error
2)rendering a 4:3 movie in ae, then exporting in cce as 16:9 - then scenarits loads the file into the same vts, but in the simulation window it doesn't fit the screen.
3)changing the composition in ae to 4:3, and redering it as 4:3 and then encoding in cce as 16:9 - same problem as #2.

i'm out of ideas for now. can you help?
in order for my title sequence to play smoothly through to my movie, do they need to be in the same VTS?
thanks
max

is it possible to change the flag of the file that fills the screen so it will be read as 16:9? scenarist reports its resolution as 720x480?

What do you mean by "but in the simulation window it doesn't fit the screen"

you can use the search to find this anyway, but...

mpegfixer (part of dvmpeg) and many other programs allow you to change flags in m2v streams.

i mean that in the simulation window, the m2v file that is reported as 16:9 does not fill the screen. theres a large black bar on the left side, as if its only as wide as a 4:3 image. but, scenarist say's its a 16:9 file and therefore it can go on the same vts as my movie.

the file that's reported as 4:3 fills the screen in the simulation and looks fine. but, scenarist reports a 4:3 ratio .

auenf- i was just wondering if changing the flags would change the problem.

do the two clips need to be reported as the same ratio and be on the same vts inorder to smoothly play together?

Sometimes the simulation window can be a little off.You might want to open your m2v file in something like power dvd and see if it's the right aspect ratio. If it is make a test senario with it as the title and compile it to see if it comes out right but only simulates wrong.
If you have two different clips I'm pretty sure that you'll get a slight pause if you have it in the same vts or in a different one.

i changed the flag and it seems to work fine now

there is a wierd pause inbetween the two clips.

i thought i read that pgc's can seamlessly play into eachother.

is there anything i can do to get rid of this blip between my title and the movie pgc's i have. the title fades to dark and the movie fades up from black. but, the audio continues through and you can hear the break as it is now.

is there any way to have the two clips and one audio clip in the same pgc, would that work to make them play smoothly together?
