Sorry if this is obvious, but I did a search and found basically nothing. Is it possible to get the little musical notes in subs somehow? SubRip just makes them a question mark. Thanks for any help :)

i imagine if you rip the subs into vobsub format they should be kept. It stores images rather than characters as far as I know.

That would be the standard SUB/IDX pair?

Also, those can't be used in MKV's can they?

I'm pretty sure it can be used in mkv.

Can be use in MKV but as external subtitles, not muxed into the file. Even if (i think) MKV can store as a stream the sub/idx vobsub file, VSfilter has not been updated yet to support directly from a MKV. So, you can put it outside the file, it works.

if you mean something like this (http://www.ak.wakwak.com/~f14g/1.jpg) , it's easy using unicode (U+266A) ♪, with SSA or even in SRT (OggDS 0996)

With Vobsub, you'll always get exactly the same signs as in the original subs. Notes definitely work (I have just been ripping Reign of Fire which had some musical notes in the subs)

exactly.. use charmap.exe and find the character. To be able to see it, you got to have a text-editor that handles extended characters (not notepad.exe). UltraEdit for example.

I tried this directly in SubRip and it didn't work, but maybe if I put in some other character like ^ or something then just Find/Replace it later in Wordpad with the music note...

Hers is how to get the musical note in an ssa, if you are using Maestro SBT to render bmp's.

With your favorite text editor open the SSA file, replace '?' or '#' or whatever character you used instead of the musical note with:
{\fnWebdings\fe2}¯ {\fnTahoma\fe0}

This will work in WinXp.(not sure if previous windows versions) Note that the second command {\fnTahoma\fe0} goes back to your original font and character encoding, so you may want to change it to Arial or whatever font you are using. The character ¯ you can type by using [Alt] + 223 .

You will get 2 musical notes, so you'll get double the pleasure.

Just for those that are still following this thread: you can also use my tool, SubtitleCreator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/subtitlecreator/), which allows you to convert srt files, using a similar notation as Yayita described, to sup files, which can be added to a DVD.

I know this is an old thread, but I had to input that I've never had a problem writing the musical notes "♪" & "♫" just by typing [Alt]+ 13 and [Alt]+ 14 respectively. Whenever I come across an .srt that is supposed to have those notes I merely open it up in notepad (yes, notepad) scroll down to the necessary line, correct the note, and presto music notes.

Just my 2¢ worth.
