Hi all,

There's a bug in DVD Architect that concerns PAL 4/3 projects. On some low cost DVD players (such as LG, Daewoo, Akai, JVC), the highlight in the menus don't display so it's impossible to select the objects. By doing some search online, i realized several people have already reported this bug. However i still haven't found a solution. It seems impossible to resolve this alone, that's why i'm asking your help cause you guys seem to be experts  . Of course, Sony Media (new DVD architect editor) has been warned but it's been 6 months they've ignored the problem. They don't reckon this is a bug, don't ask me why  ...

I know (and i checked) that on PAL 16/9 projects on DVD architect, the hightlights work on every players. So i'd like to create a "PAL 4/3 fixed" by changing the rendering, so editing the *.IFO *.BUP and *.VOB files through tools such as IFOedit and VOBedit. Do you think it is possible ? Do the highlights match to the sub-pictures in IFOedit ?

On DVD architect, i made a small project which is based on the one i've done. I just took very short samples from my videos to avoid big sizes. So there are two versions : PAL 4/3 (which has the bug) and PAL 16/9 (which works). These formats concern the menu only. The videos are always in 4/3 in bother projects. Here are the both rendering : http://poubellelqt.free.fr/crap/highlight_bug.rar

DVD architect isn't alone, DVD-lab (http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/index.html) has the exact same bug. And it seems Pinnacle has too. From what i read, this bug is common to many softwares. So i contacted Oscar who is the author of DVDlab. According him : "there seems to be some internal problem with the subpicture encoding, where some players interpreted the last zeroed lines as the color parameters -obvisly making the overlay invisible. at least that is the latest idea.most of the players get the color params from the right places, but some seems to do a shortcuts in calculations and got this wrong. if this is right, then we can fix it. also, this is a subpicture problem, it can't be fixed with ifo-edit."

Also, please have a look at this thread on DVDlab : http://www.mmbforums.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2263. The problem is described and reported with brand / model of the concerned DVD players.

I spent a while to build my menu on DVD architect. Actually i can't start it again on another software i'd have to learn. I must "release" my DVD for very soon :(. So as a last resort, i'm trying to find a way to bypass this bug by changing stuff in the rendering. If you have any clue to do so, or if you know the reason of the bug, please let us know.

Thank you very much.

wouldn't be easier to redesign your menu to be 16:9? The changes r subtle and involve only the resizing of the graphics and the highlight.
