RecordNow Max Error? But There Isn't One!

Hey

I'm trying to make a backup of my new "Italian Job" DVD and I've gotten to the last step, Burning, the problem is when I click the burn button, an error pops up saying:

Data Job "Untitled 1" Terminated With Errors
The recording is larger than the available space on the recordable disc

The data job is 4274.87 MB big, and the disc says it has 214.38 MB left, which is clearly enough space to burn the disc, so what should I do? :confused:

I just tried removing the buffer, but that didn't work.

with what program did you rip it with???

I ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter.

ok well I had that same problem too but I ripped and transcoded with DVDShrink 3.0 B5 and RecordNow said I had 200MB free and then gave me the same error you get only thing I could do to get it to work was use DVDShrink 2.3 hope this help sorry I don't have an explanation why though

launch ifoedit and "get vts sectors", for sure you SEE that the total size is right, but for sure the ifo tells another size
i exactly had the same problem, each time i didn't trust record now max and burned anyway, i got a coaster

Mongodude 1 just tell us the program you used to make your backup, so we can avoid it
at least your problem showed us one more time the powerful of record now max, NEVER unckeck option saying "recognize VIDEO_TS folder....."

I used RecordNow DX to burn it, Is that what you mean?

I used DVD Decrypter to get my VOB files, and IFO Edit and IFO Update to get my IFOs. The method I use needs both, but IFO Edit creates the IFOs that I use, and IFO Update updates them when I'm done shrinking.

I don't know how you ended up relating IfoEdit to this, but the simple fact is that if RecordNow MAX says you ran out of space, you probably ran out of space.

RecordNow MAX doesn't properly determine the overhead needed for the DVD filesystem.

For example, I just burned a site rip with 93,471 files onto a DVD-R. It kept telling me I had 200 MB left, but then would terminate with errors. The fact is that there was 303.54 MB of overhead that it wasn't calculating. When I got the source files down to 4,383,559,814 bytes, it burned just fine, and I ended up with a 4,701,839,360 byte DVD-R.

RecordNow MAX is still a great program. It's a much improved Prassi. Prassi doesn't work on many burners, and Prassi burns coasters if you try to make a data CD with massive amounts of files. Nero makes very incompatible data CD's, too. Maybe I just need to fiddle with the settings on Nero, but the point is that these days I can burn absolutely anything with RecordNow MAX or DVD Decrypter.

trying to burn a VIDEO_TS folder, record now max checks size thanks to the ifo files

your problem coming from the 303.54 MB overhead is totally different, you can't get such overhead burning something like 10 files (ifo, buf and vob)

The "Correct VTS Sectors" button on IFO Edit and the "Get VTS Sectors" button on IFO Update worked, and no, I didn't get a coaster.

My point, which you've missed entirely, is that I've also had an experience of RecordNow MAX telling me it had 200 MB left, and it also gave me the exact same error, and in my case it was because I was actually over 100 MB over the limit instead of 200 MB under. It also didn't give me a coaster, since the burning process didn't even begin.

I'm just saying it's a great program except that it's completely wrong about how much space you have on a DVD sometimes. If it derives capacity from the IFO's on a video DVD, then I guess that's a different issue (although ironic). I was just adding some info.
