I'm trying to backup Bend it Like Beckham (Region 1) but I can't seem to get the menu to come up on it's own.

Using DoitFast4u 1.31, 1.32 and 1.33 I've gotten the same results. I rip the dvd image with DVD Decryptor, mount it wil Daemon tools, then use Big 3 (DIF4U, Reauthorist and DoCCE4u) to re-encode then author in Scenarist.

Next I move the IFOs and BUPs out of the Insert_dvd_name\0\VIDEO_TS folder to a new folder called IFO and create another folder called BAK. I then copy the contents of Insert_dvd_name\video_ts to Insert_dvd_name\0\video_ts. I run IFOupdate on each IFO then Correct VTS Sectors.

When I play back the files I get the FBI, Attention, Disclamer and Ratings screens. Instead of going to the menu WinDVD gets stuck at CH 1 13:14:33. Hollywood Plus's DVD Station does something similar except it's read out screen appears the same as if you were playing the menu but the screen just shows black. If I press play a 2nd time then I get a menu.

I've done other backups using the same methods without fail. Is there something odd with this disc??

That's just a totally mixed up way of doing the ifoupdate step! Do a knowledgebase search on my homepage for 'ifoupdate' and try my method, I think you'll have better results.

I tried it your way this time using 28 Days (another Fox Title). Copied only the VOBs that I reencode from 0\VIDEO_TS to \VIDEO_TS. Ran IFOUPdate on IFOs 1-7 (a new one wasn't created for the 8th one). Then Get VTS Sectors. When I go to playback I get the same results, I get the FBI, Attention, Disclamer and Ratings screens then it just stops.

Using:
DoItFast4u 1.3.3 beta
Reauthorist 1.0
DoCCE4U 1.0.1.4
IFOUpdate .72
Scenarist 2.7
CCE 2.66.01.07

Then it sounds like you are still having problems understanding the IFOupdate/IFOedit step. Some how, some way you are not doing something right. Have you checked your IFOupdate settings to make sure you have the right options selected? Are you setting the original ifo filepath to X:\Insert_dvd_name\video_ts and the authored ifo path to X:\Insert_dvd_name\0\video_ts?

Also, are you using the Get VTS Sectors in IFOedit or IFOupdate? I have found that IFOedit is much more accurate.

Ran IFOUPdate on IFOs 1-7 (a new one wasn't created for the 8th one). You are not following along. Only run ifoupdate on the VTSes that were reencoded.

Ok now I'm copying only the VOBs that get reencoded from \0\VIDEO_TS to \VIDEO_TS. Then only running IFOupdate on the IFOs for the VOBs I re-encoded.

This helped me with a few discs I was having problems with but "Bend it Like Beckham is still stopping just before the main menu.

stopping? as in 'pause and then continues when you press play?'. That's a well known bug with an easy fix. Go to my knowledgebase and search for "pause".

Is your DVD stopping after a certain PGC/Cell after reauthoring with RA? IFOEdit>VTS_PGCITI>VTS_PGC_x. Find the cell that it is stopping on. Check the Restricted Angle value. If it's not 0, set it to 0! (Aqua has no idea why this happens, but confirms the issue.)

How do I determine which cell it's stopping on? What software should I be using to find that?

Found it. I loaded the dvd in IfoEdit and let it play until it stopped. Once I exited it displayed which VTSs it played. Viewed the last one which had 3 PGCs. Turned out to be the last one.

The line read:

Cell_1: Cell restricted? 64
restricted? yes (some misc stuff).

Like you said I changed it to 0 and bingo it works.

Thanks

Hmm that's a great idea of how to find it, I'm sure someone will find that technique useful!

Glad you got it working. :)
