View Full Version : Benefit of running IfoEdit before DVDShrink?

I've read a few articles that recommend using IfoEdit previous to DVDShrink. What is the advantage of doing this?
Thanks in advance

if you strip audio, using IFOedit first will asure you that the audio gets mapped properly and that all vts sectors are corrected if any errors exist in the IFO's. And that you do not have to use dvdshrink to strip anything which, for me, helps decrease time in transcoding process.

DVDShrink doesn't allow u to completely strip/trim a chapter/title, The most it can do is to make the title a still picture (shrink it) which still take up more space than to strip completely it with IFOEdit.

...and, after IfoEdit, the "layer-break" (I know it's not a layer break really) issue in DVDshrink is gone.

I can't remember but I'm sure I've had to do it in the past when I have stripped audio using Ifoedit but it's simple enough to do anyway
maybe I'm wrong but it would be nice to be reminded :)

it will remap it but not in the order of the subtitle menu. For ex. if you have 4 audios
1-eng 5.1
2-spa
3-eng 2 ch
4-eng directors comments
and you strip audio 1 and 2 then Ifoedit will remap it where audio 3 gets changed to audio 1 and audio 4 get remapped as audio 2. as DVDshrink will keep the entire structure intact with audios that are stripped. the only bad thing to this is if you were to do the above mentioned with dvdshrink without going to ifoedit either before or after the process is done you would have to hit the remote option 3-4 times to get audio to work. which for me is a hassle.

Hi Irasado
in your example you may still want to edit the values. Maybe stream 4 is the one you want by default so the value in stripped stream 1 would be the orginal value from stream 4. Stripped stream 2 would be the original stream 3 value. I would also copy the original 3 and 4 stream values into stripped 3 and 4 streams respectively
this quick IFO mod mean's that all original streams you left in will still work via the audio menu's also along with having your default audio playing on insert
it sounds like a fuss and maybe it is for some but it's simple if you open the original and stripped IFO's side by side :) (unless there's loads of PGC's of course)
