View Full Version : IC8 select the wrong audio track

Hi,
this is my first post but I read this forum since 2000.
I was used to do my DVD backup with IC7 and InstantCopySettings with good results. Now I've upgraded to IC8 and I've the first problem. The DVD is Lord of the Rings the Two Tower - PAL Italian version.
I've ripped in iso mode with DVD Decrypter 3.1.7.0, and then mounted the image with Alcohol. I've done a full backup with only the Italian audio track (4.25 Gb, burned with DVD Decrypter). When I insert the copy in my Toshiba SD-220E I obtain no audio at all regardless the settings. If I open directly the VOB files with Media Player Classic I can listen to ENGLISH audio track instead of Italian.
The same backup done with DVD2One 1.30 is OK but the quality isn't very good.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks a lot,
bye,
Jok

P.S.: I attach the log (in italian, sorry)

It looks like you stripped out the default audio track which the dvd player automatically tries to play. This happens to me as well, but I use my remote to bring up the audio channels on screen and and toggle through them until the one I kept is displayed and the audio starts playing.

Thanks but it is IC8 that stripped out the default audio track and not remapped the other. On my DVD player I can select any audio track but the result is the same: no audio.
On the PC I can obtain the audio (but ENGLISH instead of Italian!) only playing directly the VOB with MPClassic. Using WinDVD I've the same result as the DVD player: no audio.

There is a problem with IC8 in managing ifo file and stripping audio tracks.

However I've backed up other DVD with IC8 without any problem.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
bye,
Jok

I would say redo the dvd, IC8 probaly messed up just that instance. This has not happened to me. Once you strip an audio even if you strip audio 1,2, and 3 and you keep the 4th, IC8 remaps it to play the original 4th audio as new audio 1.

I've tried two times with the same result. With this DVD, IC8 not only pick up the wrong audio track but also doesn't remap it so that in my DVD player I can't get the audio at all! Perhaps the problem is the DVD since with other titles IC8 works good.
What information do you need about the DVD (Lord of the Rings thw two Towers) to help me?

Thanx,
bye,
Jok

best way to do this problem DVD is to use IFOEdit to strip out the languages you dont need and the the resulting files you feed through to IC8. and dont strip anything with IC8. Use the automatic resizing function

OK but I don't want to have to use Ifo Edit.
I've used DVD Shrink 3.0 beta5 with deep analisys and the quality was good.

But the problem with IC8 remain.

Yeah I can understand you not wanting to use IfoEdit but like you said it has happenned only with this movie. Might be worth dusting off your copy of IFOEdit just for this occasion and then store it back up.

What does smartripper have anything to do with his problem?

have you tried pressing the audio button on the remote and is the audio track still there?

if it is there maybe you could remap it manually using Ifoedit so it's on the right track which only takes a few minutes using a simple guide :)

It's a strange thing, pressing the audio button on the remote of my DVD player doesn't give me any audio and so it is with software DVD player. But if I open directly the VOB files (e.g. with Media Player Classic) I obtain the English audio track (wrong).

Thanks to all,
bye,
Jok

IC8 messed up some DVDs for me:
DVD "Unfaithful" R2 (R. GERE): I've selected engl.+ germen audio, but resulted only one enegl. audio (the comentary was deselected by me). Both software and standalone player cannt play the germen audio(you can select it, but the audio stream not exist on disc!)

DVD (a desney movie, name forgotten): messed up the chapitle selection menu.

In above cases I had to change the transcoder, the best one is "CloneDVD", worked perfectly. Only the movie quality is not as good as IC8, you cannot choise lower bitrate for the menu and extras and higher for the main movie just like IC8 dose.

DVD "Hulk" R2: messed up the last multi-angle entry point(the 11th of 11 total, point 1-10 was OK), movie/menu also OK. The lost info is just background info for the casting so I accepted this deficiency.

You could always use DVDShrink to strip out the audio you don't want instead of Ifoedit and then feed that file to IC8. I have had my troubles with IC8 as well. I am just waiting on the next update to maybe fix it up a bit more.

After stripping in Shrink you lost all menu and extras/specials. So dont think this is a real alternative.

Oops - I was thinking you could remove audio and subtitle streams and still retain the structure of the dvd. I was thinking you had to remove a whole title to affect the structure. .......

MackemX

you can strip out the audio & subs using DVDShrink @ 100% but only in full disk mode (not reauthor), leaving it at 100% and feed it to IC afterwards if you feel it's better quality

this won't affect the structure, but may affect the audio/subs stream paths which is probably the same issue as IC

In full disk mode you cannot disable the unwanted titles, and the most issues of IC8(messed up div. menus, multiamgle-entry points) are come from the changed structure(de-selecte some titles, change of PGC). So this tip has very limited improvement in the incompatibity of IC8.

@htc10825, I dont know if you were referring to my tip or not :), but I will explain my post a litle more anyway. It's just been a long time since I used IC. I'm going from distant memory and I'm not 100% certain and I don't normally post unless I'm certain as I will test stuff first:)

I posted that info though I can't recall if DVDShrink leaves ghost streams in (I'm sure it does in later versions)

if it does then I would rip the audio using Shrink direct from the DVD @ 100%. Run this through IC without having to strip streams and have it mess them up as IC should leave them in as it thinks they are really there. IC may actually remove them from the IFO if they do not exist in the VOB data but again I can't confirm :(

if IC doesnt then I would then do a quick IFO mod and edit whichever track I want into the ghost streams :), so no matter what stream is selected the audio will be heard

the other good thing about using DVDShrink to rip and strip audio/subs is that IC will be processing less data, as the audio/subs are already stripped than if you rip the complete DVD ;). That is unless people want to pay $40 for the pleasure of processing direct and I'm not sure if they work with IC

I dont think Shrink remux some ghost streams in its results... any way, such replacemants are für audio stream and/or subpicture not much wise or useful... (only für video or program strams)

The problem of IC is sometimes it analysed/interperated the assignment of audio/subpicture streams wrong. So it is possible after Shrink has changed the structures/assignments of audio/sub streams the IC get on better with the changed source... at the next opportunity I'll proof it...

Any way, thx for the tip!

By the way, use ifoedit you can also rip some streams...
use SmartRipper you can remap the audio/sub streams...
