Yep, I have this problem. I got a 640*480 300 meg Avi (XVID). It had AC3 and separate subtitles wich autoloaded by Vobsub. But the movie wasn't continius, video was desynched, and sometimes it crashed.

I know my PC is slow, but playing that file is 'that' resource consuming? I have win2k on a 465 mhz pc, 96 or something megs memory...

I had problems like these before, but I wonder if I'm not doing something wrong with configurations...

Playing video encoded in Mpeg4 cosumes some resources. But not that much to hang up your system.May be these DS filters sre causing problem.

Above these all is the Os you are using.

Your AVI is most likely broken. Check if the filelength is correct with GSpot.

Or...load the file in virtualdubmod and advance the slider to the approximate area right before you crash. Then push the play button. It will not process past currupt areas. So, if it is currupt you will soon know, and exactly where, by frame number.

It's not that it crashes absolutely... it crashes a little while and then works again, but the sound and image get desynched. I think the problem is with Vobsub, cuz I can view the file correctly without the subtitles, although I don't understand much.

What can I do to make vobsub less resource consuming? I really don't think that hardsubbing (just to view it) is an option.

What file type are you using?
Do you mean there was a stuck in between the video, only watching with subs?.Is it occuring the same point as before?

This sounds like the behavior of a few currupt frames. Perhaph in the sub file.

AchtungAffen,The problem can be either with your subtitle file or vobsub.First try re-installing vobsub after un-installing and re-boot.
If this is not helping you.Try converting the sub file to another format and load into directvobsub. Then play again. For converting sub file type use subresync[installed along with vobsub]-open the existing file and choose save as *SRT.If you want to auto load the new sub ,use the same name as the movie and place it to same folder.

If all this is not working, the problem is corrupt subfile.
