Hi,

I am getting an error message on my Philips DVDR880 saying “Empty Disc” when I try to playback a backup made using DVDShrink 2.3. I have tried it with two films ( The One and End of Days ). One was a full movie, the other was a re-author. They were both made using +RWs ( obviously on a +RW burner ) and using Nero 5.5.10.42. I have tried playing these on a friend’s Sony DVPNS430 and they both play ok – so I know these discs aren’t actually empty.

I think I was pretty careful when using DVDShrink – but it might have been something I did ( although they probably wouldn’t play on his player if there was something wrong with them ).

It is very odd because my DVDR880 obviously can play DVD+RWs - it what it uses to record things onto ( I have recorded many things off the TV and they are all fine ). I used the same Infiniti +RWs I use for recording off the TV and so I know the media is ok.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any different settings on DVDShrink ( or Nero? ) that I should try?

Thank you for your help.

I don't believe I've heard anyone mention DVDShrink creating unplayable disks. If it wasn't for what you said about recording TV shows, I'd swear it was a media problem.

As a test, just to narrow down the possibilities, I'd find a DVD5 in your collection and try making a direct copy of that using DVDDecrytper - rip in ISO mode then burn in ISO mode.

If it won't play, it strongly suggests something is hinky with your player.

If it does play, there might be something funny going on with DVDShrink or some other part of your process (I personally don't trust Nero) that produces results that your player doesn't tolerate but that your friend's player does.

Ok, thanks for the suggestion. It's probably is just my player.

Thanks again.
