View Full Version : Corrupted .d2v playback

My source is an NTSC pure interlaced DVD with the main movie broken into 5 VOB files. Using f5 to preview: at 1 hour, 8 minutes, 13 seconds into the movie the picture has blocks of corruption which continue to the end. The preview is fine up till that point. If I start the preview after that spot then there is no corruption and the movie plays fine till the end. There is something at that exact spot that is screwing up the VOB > d2v process from that spot on. The bad spot is about 3/4ths of the way through VOB3. When playing the VOBs directly with media player software this spot and the entire movie play fine.

Does anyone know how I can get around this problem? I've already tried using dvd2avi versions 1.6, 1.77.3, and 1.77.3dg. I've also tried fixd2v110. None have solved the problem.

The corruption itself looks like stuttering, jerky, blurry playback. The sort of thing one sees with bad divx encodes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

One weeks and no replies. Should this have been in the decrypting forum instead? My best guess is that there is some sort of error in the 3rd VOB that is causing the problem. Media players and DVD players are able to compensate (there a slight shaking of the picture for an instant at that point then it resumes normal play) but DVD2AVI gives corrupted playback from that point on.

I don't know how to fix a VOB nor do I know if there's an alternate to DVD2AVI that may correct the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Your data suggests that DVD2AVI needs improved resilience to stream errors. I would be willing to address that issue but you'll have to be willing to send the VOBs to me, if necessary by mailing a DVD containing them.
