OK, for the last year or so I can no longer play DVDs on my computer.

I have a Samsung CD-RW/DVD 304B drive.
My video memory is only 16mb
My RAM is 384.

When I first purchased my computer almost two years ago, I WAS able to play DVDs on it. Now I can't. It isn't the DVD Drive b/c I have loaded movies onto a virtual drive and I have no luck there either.

Everytime I load a DVD and try to play it (w/ both PowerDVD & WMP) the system crashes and I get a serious error.

I CAN preview movies in programs like DVDShrink, but I can't watch them w/ players.

Has anyone ever heard of this or know what causes this?

thank you
John

Sounds like a software problem. Try a new player/Re-install your current ones. (WMP uses 3rd party player if I recall: i.e. It actually uses PowerDVD)

Had also bought a Samsung-DVD-ROM 3 years ago...

But after 2 years it stopped playback of DVD's !

Some DVD's where complete unreadable, others freezed while playback...

CD's runned still fine... !!!

As I changed my Samsung to an Toshiba-1612, and all problems where gone ! :D

I will never buy a Samsung-DVD-ROM again !

Bye

There isn't much a fresh windows install won't fix :D seriously!
another alternative is a hardware dvd decoder card, they're quite cheap these days and do wonders for older pc's.
