I'm just curious how long it takes people to back up DVD's using the Big 3 and what their processor is. I have a Intel P4 1.60GHz and it is s-l-o-w. It takes about 18 hours or so from start to finish (assuming the project actually goes right, which it hasn't yet.
I'm going to have to buy a new processor and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to buy for less.
thanks

DVD5's
I used to go the route of Divx, until I invested in the DVD Burner. Until I get the system down-pat, I can't recommend switching to DVDs from Divx.

i just got into dvd backups ( and actually doing it this time )
i tried before with no luck but it was user erer. ( my fault )
was taking about 5+ hrs, with no satisfaction.
then i wasen't going to go out that easily..so i tried again.
this time i bought a nec 1300a dvd dual format burner ($105.00) :D
and found this wonderful program called... dvd shrink! from this site
i can backup a large dvd-9 movie in under an hour start to finish,
whole movie menues and all.i burn with nero6,memorex media and label maker.i've had the best experince here, just about all the threads have been verry informitive.this is what has worked for me and it's been working great.before i tried the long way using cce and the other 4-5 programs you need to do it the real way but that was a lot of worke and time to backup a movie so they don't get dammaged wen my kids get a hold of them.i'm really thankfull to who brought us dvd shrink.since i,ve tried dvd x copie 2 disks? i'll stick with 1 disk since i don't want to do svcd anymore 2-3disks standered.
o, and you can also get cool prices from WWW.pricewatch.com or www.pricegrabber.com

Big 3? Is that Anydvd,Dvd2one,Copytodvd? If it is you got some serious problems like jeremymacmull said it should only take about 30min. I've run the above programs on many systems, the slowest being a p3 533, and they average around 30-40 min. That's from rip, to compress, to burned.

I concur that something's seriously wrong if it's taking you that long to burn a disc.
You should verify that DMA is enabled for the bus leading to your DVD drive - XP has this fantastic habit of disabling after IO errors.
Also, an excellent place to find the cheapest processor, or any part, is http://www.pricewatch.com. Also, Sharky Extreme (www.sharkyextreme.com) has weekly price listings.
