Hi,

I'm sorry if this has be answered elsewhere but I need some help:

1. How do I use VirtualDub and/or VirtualDubMod to convert my movies to Divx 5.1? So far I've been using Dr. Divx but its rather painful and I have to rely on its default High settings and its kinda painfull to use.

2. How do I burn the DivX files to CD? I've tried the normal way with software that came with my CD burner and I've also tried Nero. For some reason after I burn it, the divx files wont play. Well, some of them work fine but most of them dont work anymore. Copying the files back to the Harddrive from the burnt CD doens't make a differentce either as only those few files that played before play but not the rest. I realize that it might be the quality of my CD but I dont think so. The reason is that I have downloaded and burned divx movies right from the internet and when I burn those on the same CD's, they work just fine. It's only the ones that I convert on my computer that dont usually work on the burned CD's.

edit:
3. How do I do like batch file conversions? I hate the way I have to select each file in Dr. Divx and then add it to batch. It takes too long that way.

Please help if you can. I know that you guys get a lot of newbies like me posting here asking these juvenile questions but at one point even you guys were newbs so please be kind.

Hi Carpe and welcome to the forum.

All the questions you ask will be somewhere here on the forum. I know you must be frustrated and want to be able to do everything today. But I'm afraid it is a case of read, read, read!

I'm suprised your having problems with DrDivX. I have this application too and it is possible to override the standard settings and create encodes at the file sizes you require!

Now some questions: -

Are you creating encodes to watch on just your PC

Are you looking to put 1no movie onto 1no CD-R

I really don't believe that you are ready to handle VirtualDubMod quite yet!

And please don't talk about downloading movies etc, as it breaks the forum rules (rule 6 to be exact) And it would be rather embarrassing to get striked on your first post!

So please read the rules and use the search facility?

And I'll be waiting for those answers to my questions!

Cheers

"Are you creating encodes to watch on just your PC"

No, I want to simply burn it on a CD to save Space...running out of room on my 120 GB. I'm only looking to watching it on my PC not in a DvD player but I want to burn it on to a CD.

"Are you looking to put 1no movie onto 1no CD-R"
Yes, I simply want to burn it onto the disk.

"I really don't believe that you are ready to handle VirtualDubMod quite yet!"

Well, I'll take your word for it since I dont know much about encoding and things. :)

"And please don't talk about downloading movies etc, as it breaks the forum rules (rule 6 to be exact) And it would be rather embarrassing to get striked on your first post!"

Opps, sorry I didn't know. I wont make that mistake in the future.

Thanks for your help so far and for the nice reply. Looking forward to your next post. In the meantime I will try out that search function you suggested.

Hello, Carpe, and welcome to the forum.

Doom9 has a DivX 5 encoding guide (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm) that shows, step by step, how to use Gordian Knot to create DivX 5 encodes. The current production version of Gknot comes with DivX 5.05, though many people are using Gknot successfully with DivX 5.1, and have reported so in this forum. (Gknot is an encoding suite that happens to use VirtualDubMod to do DivX 5 encoding.)

I know your CD burning issues are troubling you. But: We don't have enough information to help you diagnose the problem. Check out this thread in another forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19566) for advice on how to rephrase your problem.

That question is likely to be better addressed in the PC Hardware/Software forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=16), rather than here in the DivX 5 forum, since the problem is unrelated to the codec, and the audience may be more knowledgeable there.

Hi, a common mistake is running only one pass in a multipass setting.
Divx will create an avi-file, but it is not usable.
