I want to be able to trim and join movie clips, but I don't really want to re encode them. If the clips are all using the same codec, with the same parameters, wouldn't it be possible to join or trim them without reencoding them?
This would save me so much time. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Damn... schooled. Thanks though, I didn't know Virtual Dub could do that.

If your input is DV, just trim and join them in Premiere and then export timeline to DV. It just copy the usefule data from the input DV. It is proved that there is no encoding in between at all.
