View Full Version : DV capture - ever be supported?

I really like the ability of VirtualDub to multi-segment capture from analog sources through a capture card.

However, I am trying to move to DV, and would really like VDub to do the same thing but with IEEE1394 input.

I know there are programs on the net that do 1394 capture, but either split files according to the time index that comes from the source, or don't split at all. And besides, it is a pain in the ... to have to use a separate program to capture, and then move back to VDub to play!

I know Avery has refused to add any DV support to VDub, but wouldn't it be a simple matter to get some of the source code that these other programs use (I think even micro$oft has free code for this!) and incorpoate it with VDubs great multi-segment ability?

Perhaps it would fall into a VDubMod thing?

I assume from the number of reads and the corresponding number of replies (zero!) that absolutely no one is interested in this? (or else there is some solution that I don't know about!)

If so, speak up!

iuvcr appears to do what you want it to do.

Did you try WinDV from http://windv.mourek.cz/ (http://windv.mourek.cz/)?

Well, I have been a bit time limited lately, but I have done some (very breif) testing.

I found four programs...
WinDV : Really kicks. Can split (although only by number of frames). Can also play files (multi-part apparently) out thru IEE1394. Free.

iuVCR : Looks very comprehensive, and can compress to just about anything. Splits by frames or file size. However, I can't get it to grab a file in native format (ie: DV). It seems to force re-compression. The help was comprehensive too, but gave no clues on how to do direct DV to harddisk. Any pointers anyone? Trial 30 days.

DVIO : Pretty good. Input & output, no preview window. No multi-segment. Free.

dvapp : I heard this was an M$ demo program. Well, I couldn't get it to work. As all the other ones do, it doesn't say much for the M$ team. I suppose you get what you pay - nothing.

My reccomendation is WinDV (pending further investigations).

Thanks for the pointers guys!
