Tried to use TMPGEnc 2.59 for converting an WMV-file (which is indicated to be an ASF-file by G-Spot)into a VCD-conformous MPEG-file; however, the picture stayed grey (not black!) all the time, already during encoding as well as after watching the finished product. Audio was fine.
I was told to look for special plugins that are necessary for TMPGEnc to be able to encode from ASF/WMV. Is this true? If so, where can I download such plugin(s)?

I've never had a problem where it wouldn't accept an asf/wmv file or that it wouldn't encode it. (ie, grey screen) Few things you can try. Search out for the codec used in the asf (Like MS MPEG4 V3) and install it or try messing with your environmental settings. Like higher directshow multimedia file reader. Hell, I've got mine set to 3 at the very top.
