I've downloaded an Xvid file and I am trying to decode the audio in full processing mode in Vdub, but I am getting decompression errors. I have all available (I think) codecs installed.

Gspot reports that it is an Xvid movie with 5.1 sound and that I have 3 compayible codecs installed. So what is going wrong. Vdub is normally very reliable for this type of work.

Is there another prog I can use to decode the 5.1 audio?

How about Graphedit?
Maybe you can check out this Guide:

http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/audio-extract.htm

Altough this guide is for DVD audio extraction, the principle should be pretty much the same.

No such thing as XviD audio. XviD is a video codec, not an audio codec.

Try the demux option in VirtualDubMod or direct streaming in VirtualDub and then BeSplit to remove the wav header.

Not only is XviD, as already posted, not an Audio codec (always have a look at the FAQ first), but you also seem to be violating forum rule No 6:

I've downloaded an Xvid file

Forum rule:

6) No warez, cracks, serials or illegally obtained copyrighted content! Links to content of a questionable nature, asking for, offering, or asking for help/helping to process such content in any way or form is not tolerated

And you appear to be jumping to conclusions. Do you know what the file was and how or where I got it? As my granny always says, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.

If you downloaded a file with AC3 it seems pretty obvious to me, and the rule clearly states "of a questionable nature".
I am not a moderator and don't wanna be anal about this, but I think people should respect the rules to keep this forum clean - remember, this forum is not about helping people with files downloaded from Kazaa - it is for people who are genuinly interested in DVD conversion.

I have yet to see a legit downloaded XviD file with 5.1 AC3 audio, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of a doubt if you can share the source. Note that in accordance with our guidelines regarding format conversions (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?s=&forumid=6) no questions must be raised about the source or no help may be provided (or asked for). If there are questions, they must be answered to the moderator team's satisfaction or the discussion cannot continue.
