Hi everyone,

I tried Divx 5.1 after using XViD for a while. I used the latest Gordian Knot update and put the settings as doom 9 requested.
But I turned off the profiles in order to turn on GMC and switched the psychovisual enhancement to "slow".

Now I'm encoding with 2 fps !!! With an Athlon 1700! This seems VERY slow to me!

What's wrong??

It is not a problem it is bcoz of the advanced algorithm used by divx5.1 codec. The Quality/Speed setting at standard Mode is equvalent to older divx's slow/slowest mode, which was mentioned by doom9's old guides.
The same thing was discussed in this forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=61150&highlight=disable+feedback+window)

Thanks, Tuning.

I'll give it another shot in standard mode, but I get 10-11 fps w/ XViD, so that's the benchmark (since I can't really tell the difference).

Edit: Maybe it'd be an idea to mention that in one sentence in the guide, otherwise other people might be mistaken, too.

I have an Athlon 1.4GHz and getting 2fps in standard mode. It IS slow, you just have to believe that quaity improvement is worth that slowdown.

From my tests (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=61556), the speed impact comes from QPel+BiDi, pulling me from 12fps down to 2fps....

Sadly, I must throw my hat into the statisics here. My Barton-core 2500+ @2.15GHz running a fairly simple AVS is getting only about 10-16fps, depending on resizer arguments, and the complexity of the video itself.

(sigh) I need SSE2.
