hi

what mpeg encoder do you want exactly? mpeg-1, mpeg-2 or mpeg-4 compatible?

in fact all encoders can be very fast, you just have to disable advanced features (like better motion search precision, Qpel...) which means lower quality

i got main concept mpeg 1 and 2 and i have all kind of AVI movies that i need to convert to mpeg, change resolution size so it will match my T.V standard, but the problem is that i have to wait like 3 to 4 hr to covert it o mpeg then to vcdeasy to make an image.so is there a fast encoder?any?.thanks a lot for your help.

Well, CinemaCraft is the fastest, another choice is TmpegEnc, which is easier to use.

@trdfan: sorry, but you don't seem to have gotten one or two very important aspects of this forum.

first of all please look at your 'older' threads, which are still on the first page of the gen disc forum. at least as a reference. why? because they have been moved to another forum because they didn't fit here. and i'm fairly sure this one will be moved by the respective mod fairly soon too...SO please take a look at the numerous forums before posting and then decide where it fits best.

and lurking and reading in the forum wouldn't be too bad either ;)

anyway, to your question: 3 to 4 hours doesn't say much. you have to tell us how long your videos are (in average at least) so we can assess if the encoding is fast or not.

The newest vevsion of mainconcept mpg encoder is pretty fast. I haven't done any speed test but it seemed faster than tmpgenc.

Please read up on many people's pet peeve against a new poster :)

Also, discover periods. They make reading a little easier.

Converting avis are doubly problematic. First this board does not discuss illegal downloaded avis. Second many legal Divx or XVid avis are created by morons who use vbr mp3s as sound tracks. These can be very difficult to get in sync when re-encoding to dvd/svcd/vcd. Do some searches on that topic. Make sure they will play first in media player before trying an encode. This way you will know if the moron codec of the week is installed properly. That sounds obvious but it is a problem that happens all the time.

3 or 4 hours is not bad at all. Get used to it. Several years back it used to take 12. The mainconcept encoder is very newby friendly, fast, and gives good quality so it is most probably your best choice.

Good Luck, but read a bit more before posting next time :) I promise all this stuff will get a lot easier with practice (and reading).

If the "moron" has used vbr mp3s as sound tracks is there naything you can do about it, i`m having problems with my avi`s, when i split them the sound jumps ahead on the 2nd cd.

cheers...
