as most of you probably know, btwincap drivers on most capture cards dont enable stereo sound, so you cant capture in stereo, unless you are using an external source.
well i found a way of getting to work with my Hauppauge WinTV card.
This is in Windows XP SP1. (i donno if it will work on other O/S s)
1.
Install the latest official driver for your card. (I just went to www.hauppauge.com)
2.
Run btwincap.exe and dont change anything, except for 'TV Tuner natively can tune FM radio' and continue with the rest of the installation. (but you must leave everything to auto-detect, because it uses your original drivers to get all the info)
3.
download and run VirtualVCR (http://virtualvcr.sourceforge.net):
once open, click on the hammer icon. that will bring up settings.
4.
first go to the 'tuner' tab and click TV tuner device.
then select a channel so you can test it. (eg. MTV or something)
5.
go to 'devices' tab, then under device settings, select 'TV Audio'
then click 'prop'.
6.
under channels, select 'Stereo'. click apply then ok.
7.
go to 'view' tab, check 'Use smart tee filter for preview'.
8.
go to 'audio' tab, click TV Audio, then select Stereo, click apply then ok.
9.
you should already hear audio playing, you can usualy tell if the audio is Stereo or Mono. If it sounds mono, go back and fiddle with the settings until you get stereo, then close Virtual VCR.
now you can go into any capture program, VirtualDub, AVI_IO whatever and it will be in Stereo.
you should not have to go to Virtual VCR anymore because it has now locked in the Stereo setting.
If you wish you can uninstall Virtual VCR.
