i know this topic has probably been beaten to death but i have seen the specific ins and outs of the comparison.

which one is ideal for the video work?

i hear that CCE-SP favours P4...

also Overclocking is NOT recommended for video work?

PS. if this violates some silly forum rules about "whats better" thread than delete it. but knowledge is power, and in dog eat dog work , we need the best of the best :D

I'm an AMD fan, but I've just brought myself a P4 2.8-C based PC for my video work. I haven't done truckloads of CCE encoding since my upgrade, but on my old system which was an AMD 2400XP/ 2 x 256MB PC3200 in Dual DDR mode on a Abit NF7 V2.0 motherboard I got CCE speeds of around 2.25. With my new system which is a P4 2.8-C with 2 x 512MB PC4000 in Dual DDR on an Abit IC7 I'm getting CCE speeds of 3.10, and even higher.

CPU optimization of the software gives what is good for it.I mean if the software uses SSE/SSE2..the intel P4 has better support or if it is 3D now..AMD.Some software compiled with processor optimization can be even better. For eg Virtual dub P4 optimized version.

Overclocking is NOT recommended for video work?
The heat generated during video work makes over clocked chips unstable.

with adequate cooling, overclocking is recommended imo.

as long as the pc's stable, pump up that fsb.

I do too, to a degree. I have my 2.8-C running at 3.5Ghz and the perfomance increase is quite noticeable. I'm only running the stocky HSF, and have increased the voltage of my CPU by .1 v and am having no stability or overheating issues. However we are headed towards summer in this end of the world and I expect that may require a significantly better cooling solution.

Scotland's hardly known for its sweltering subtropical climate, but even in summer i had a nice 45% overclock, with a slightly raised voltage. now, you can't complain for free, and there are people running much faster... bearing in mind that when i first overclocked, you couldn't BUY processors running that fast, let alone for the £45 it cost me, that's not too shabby.

The latest Athlon 64 revised core is pretty much wiping the best Intel has to offer in all SSE2 apps... Thats why you are finding majority reviews with AMD64 comination & a few having some old cores. Wait for the Athlon 64 FX revision... Did I forget to mention how cool they are running?
