No sound on playback, help.

Ok, I downloaded the Ogg codec from FAQ page but I still have no sound. Though everythinb Divx 5 plays with sound on MS Media Player or any other codec. I have XP SP1. Any help? File I'm playing is from da net.

PS: When I go to file options in MS Media Player, I get for audio decoder: Nero Digital Audio Decoder. Could it be why it won't play sound? How can I make it use OGG??

Nero InfoTool shows a list of video/audio codecs but Ogg is not on the list. Is it possible that the install doesn't install it properly?

Oh, it is so related. Freaking file is XVID.

XviD is a Video Codec, not an Audio Codec. Thats why people in another forum might be of more help.

And even if the file is Xvid, you should have at least mentioned that.

Using that tone, you're not attracting help. We're not in a place here where anyone can pop in (without brushing the dirt from his shoes) and shout "Help me watching dat file I got from da net 'cause I'm all too lazy to search for a solution myself."

All it does is make me asking what kind of file 'from da net' you're talking about. (You better read our forum rules again before answering, I think.) You know I could have overlooked that reference to the file's origin but you're asking for it.

First off all quote what type of file are u using.If it is a video file u need to install DirectShow filter and not codec.This is available in d/l section.

As I posted in the original post, been there, done that. The codec says that it is installed but it is not among audio codecs. And I get video great but still no sound. I de-installed Ogg codec from #15 in FAQ and installed it again. Still, it is not among the codecs and still no sound.


Why am using such a tone? Because of such posts as "We have that, it's called 'XviD FAQ'; look at 15)." where people read only topics and they skip the body part. I did state that I have done everything according to FAQ but somehow the OGG codec won't install properly. What do you think such "We have that, it's called 'XviD FAQ'; look at 15)" make me feel like? How that makes you look?

Get the software called 'Gspot' from the download-page, determin the audio codec, download and install the codec.

Now for your last post: You can of course try to distract us from my reason for not being happy to help you in the first place: You're trying to watch a video that you obviously haven't encoded yourself. We got a 90% probability that it's pirated. I don't need to argue with you, we're strict on that, and you agreed to those terms when joining the forum. Leave if you don't like it. I'm obliged to strike you for bringing such talk about such material up on the forum.

I was willing to let it pass because you're new. But instead of trying to convince me that you're not doing anything illegal or apologizing or just keeping quiet, which would all be respectable ways to react, you're criticizing me for actually moderating this forum. This would earn you another strike (rule 4). As strikes for rule 6 count on the double, you'd be suspended from this forum after just 3 posts. I'll let the violation of rule 4 pass, but let this be a warning to you.
