Is the prodecure for removing AdWare for Divx 5.1 the same as for 5.0? As outlinded in the "sticky" thread above?

Thanks.

Using a firewall is the easiest way to getrid of the Gator adware.If u don't use this codec for encoding and only use for playback u can permenantly disable the gator startup program using some kind of startup managers like system mechanic.Or u can manually edit the startup by typing"msconfig" in winXP/me/98.U cannot encode video if u perform this,as the adware codec checks its existence.;)

Tuning, thanks for your help. But I know how to defeat the Gator AdWare for v5.02 using the method above. I just want to know if the method above works for v5.1 too.

Yes, it does.

As long as you follow Doom9's instructions... to the letter!

Tuning, if your not encoding then the totally free non pro version will playback all content encoded with the pro version.

DivX basic version without pro features.
;)
Some newbies need this sugesstion as they d/l the pro version and think that it has more features in the decoding part than the basic version.If they still want use the pro version and getrid of adware this is what they need to do.:)

BTW,I'm using the same AdwareCoDec in my rips.:D .

@Sirber

Nooooo Stop !!! :scared:

Don't use Ad-aware to remove this stuff from DivX5...
Because it stops working then !!! ;)

Better use a good firewall (for example ZoneAlarm...)

[PS: Ad-aware is still a very nice app. !!! ]

does anyone know what ports or ips the gator software works on/broadcasts to?

No, the method does not work with Divx 5.1 ... i did everything by the book, and when tryin' to encode, Divx 5.1 doesn't work ... is there other way to get rid of those damn adware/spyware without losing functionality?

In my opinion true DivX enthusiasts should purchase the full version.

People should get used to the fact that some things in life are worth paying for!

It's not like there isn't a free version. But at $20.00 is not a fortune anyway. And I'm sure DivX can do with the financial support!

They changed the gator file (to fsg_4104.exe)!!

and the registry key seems to be :-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{21FFB6C0-0DA1-11D5-A9D5-00500413153C}

Other than that Ad-aware seems to get everything. ;-)

I agree with purchasing the software. $20 for software I use on a daily basis is a very good deal. Especially since they always give free upgrades.
