Hmm strange. I also have a firewall and VirtualDub(Mod) never tried to access the net :/.
Moreover I don't know enough on sockets to try and play with networks :p

I wonder why people install such useless software... (in case you point to some reviews about ZoneAlarm: i've read about 20 of them, and all were written by trolls. Although I don't know which packet filter you use, it is most likely useless: Unless you exactly know what you are doing, all you cause is problems... )

The protocol (IGMP) and the address (224.0.0.22) can tell you that it's a multicast request.
Maybe VdubMod 1.5.1.1a integrate a network mod (or some preliminary support). And so it try to find some friend on the local network :D to accelerate your encoding.
Btw this data will not go too far through your internet provider ;)

Ok, thank's, it rassure me.

In reply to the "useless" post: I use a firewall for personnal reason, good reason. not because I'm paranoyak: I don't even have an A.V. ;p

Ps.: Zone alarm and Black ICE are the worst firewall ever.

The 1.5.x line of VDubMod hasnt any network code. I'd strongly recommend you to scan for virii/trojans.

BlackIce was being downloaded for a great many months from a server which was a honeypot (machine left with many vulnerabilities on purpose to attract hackers). And the server was hacked (this was in the news) - God knows what might be in the BlackIce you use....

My fave personal firewall is Kerio (was Tiny before they changed). It's free for personal use.

Black ICE has a great exploit in it, it fun when I scan someone with this crap, it give me a remote shell ... woooo what a great protection ;p

well, I think it is not the subject of this topic, so stop talking about firewall now
