View Full Version : No effects on encode OR Bidi and GMC...make big difference?

Just wondering if using bidi and gmc will make for an all around better encode in general than using no effects at all? And also, when adjusting the settings for the passes and there is that slider bar for bitrate...I'm a little confused on this. The bitrate is set in Gknot when you pick the number of cd's to be used. So what happens if when I readjust the bitrate slider from what gknot has set it at...say 1400kbs to a much higher number of 3000kbs. Will this therefore give me a much better looking movie encode?

GMC gives some sort of stuttering in panning scenes, so most people don't use it. Bidi reduces the filesize of a Q2-encode about 40% (could be mistaken on this one), so that means that if you make a 1CD encode, the quality will be much better than without BiDi.

The slider and the number for the bitrate are the same, so if you increase the number/slide to the right, the bitrate will be higher, and the quality will be better. However, your filesize will increase, so it won't fit anymore on your calculated nr of CD's in Gordian Knot.

Bottom line: make the calculations in Gordian Knot, don't touch the bitrate/slider any more, and use BiDi for better quality.
