View Full Version : AVI-Mux GUI MKV - What does 'Stretch' do?

I am currently experiment with encoding my DivX movies at anamorphic resolutions and then stretching them on playback. I am led to believe that the Matroska format supports this function although I haven't yet found out how to do it.
I have downloaded AVI-Mux-GUI-MKV and noticed that it has an input box next to 'Video' that says 'Stretch'. I entered a value of 1.42 and saved the mkv file successfully. However, the movie still plays squashed in Media Player Classic and Zoomplyer.
Am I using the Stretch function correctly? I cannot find any referance to it on alexnoe's site.
If not, what is it used for and what is the correct way to create anamorphic mkv files that will resize on playback?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers, Beastie.

try this (http://matroska.free.fr/downloads/cdl/MatroskaPropv1.6.exe) to set the playback res
and you have to use overlay mixer during playback (set it in mpc or ffdshow)

Beastie Boy,
May I ask what may be an obvious question. What 'image pixel frame size' are you generating your encodes to?
Cheers

bond, thanks for the link, I shall give it a go when I'm home.
SeeMoreDigital, I generally crop the black bars and any extra that may be required to get an even resolution. I then encode without any resizing and use GKnot to calculate what the aspect ratio should be for playback.

Do you have more or less of a problem getting to view the images at the correct aspect ratio?
Just wondering!

'Stretch' will stretch the video timecodes! I need this because my Mediaplayer Classic captures are async with a rate of 0.02%. So I remux the files with stretching the video timecodes by 0.02%...
Currently, it is not possible to indicate the aspect ratio value in avi-mux gui. I'll implement that in the next version.

SeeMoreDigital, in GKnot I open the d2v file and check the 1:1 aspect ratio option and then crop the frame to my liking.
I then temporarily select 16:9 anamorphic option and make a note of the aspect ratio that GKnot indicates.
I then reselect 1:1 ratio and encode the movie with the resizing entry of the avs file deleted.
For playback, using Zoomplayer, go to the options and set the custom AR to the value given by GKnot (eg. 1:2.35) and activate the custom AR.
The movie now plays with the correct ratio whether it be 1:1.85, 1:2.5 or anything else.
Currently, it is not possible to indicate the aspect ratio value in avi-mux gui. I'll implement that in the next version.
Excellent. That would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I will also write the aspect ratio values to AVI files then, as specified in Open-DML 1.02 from 28/02/96. However, we'll see if M$ DirectShow can read aspect ratios from AVI files...

Personally, I think think you may run into problems getting the AR flagging to work correctly using encodes that have been 'anamorphicly' cropped!
Having said that I really would like to see this feature implimented..... finally!

do you know if gabest's splitter supports that? I'll PM him if I find out that it doesn't :D

It should work now. However, i did not yet check if it works with AVI output (i.e. i don't write aspect stuff to AVI files)

Wow, that was quick.
I'm at work at the moment, I'll give it a try ASAP.
Many, many thanks.
