Xvid and 'green slime' look on playback

When I try to play an Xvid video, using tons and tons of different players, the video gets this think that looks like thick green fog over the screen.

How can I fix this annoying thing?

Try installing ffdshow.

You are using a super-old version of the codec. Go get one of the "alpha" or "unstable" builds. They are actually stable and have many new features. They call them unstable or alpha because the codec is in the middle of changing between the .9 and 1.0 versions. Features get added/changed on a fairly regular basis.
