Xvid fast forwarding issues

i have been encoding some movies in xvid (2 pass encoding with virtual dub)and i noticed whenever i try to fast forward in the in media player often times it doesnt work and kind of freezes until i play with the slider a little. Has anyone else run into this problem?? i tried setting the maximum Iframe interval to 200 frames and im still experienceing the same problem any know how to get around this??

Could be a b-frame issue as well. Are you encoding with b-frames? AVI/VfW doesn't technically support b-frames IIRC so there are usually seeking issues. Also, some players support it better than others. On my box Gabest's Media Player Classic is one of the best for fast seeking.

i dunno if im using b frames, how can i tell? i looked through the setting under "compression" "xvid" menues in virtual dub but didnt see anything about b frames :/

In VD > Video > Compression > XviD > Advanced Options > Should on the bottom of the first tab (B-Frame control).
