I just started using 5.1 Codec in GKnot and got some funny results from the compressibility test. For the same movie and the exact same settings in GKnot I got a result >70% with 5.0.3 codec and <45% with 5.1 codec.

I found good explanations for this behaviour.
Now the question is:
I am not an encoding expert and I don't have enough time to encode every movie several times to see how it comes out. Thats why I rely on recommendations by those who know this stuff better than I do.
Starting from the recommended values in the Guides i gathered some experience like "XX% gives me this quality, YY% this quality". With the 5.1 codec, this experience is obsolete, right ? :(
New recommendations anyone ???
BTW: Encoding speed using 5.1 has become very low. I have to choose "standard" in the quality/speed settings AND swith PV off to stay within my limit of "one movie - one night of encoding". 1GHz used to be quite impressive ... not too long ago. :(
