View Full Version : What's wrong with playback? wrong codec?

Hi, I got a video wich according to gspot requires DIV3. I used to be able to play it with DivX player (the old one), now with the new one I just see noise. Same with WMP. I try BSPlayer and I get this:

So, what can I do? I get that BSPlayer is using ffdshow to decode video... is that right?
The funny thing is that the video seems to work allright with virtualdub. I've been thinking of reencoding to something that works better, like XVid, but since I'm no expert at encoding, I'd prefer to get a solution to this playback problem
Thanks.

It says its using ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder.
But, I tried to disable (using bsplayer) the DIV3 option in FFDSHOW, and I only get more trouble, I just see multicolor snow!

When you disable the DIV3 option in FFDSHOW, what says Gspot then ?
Dont know really what this problem causes...
But as it plays fine in VDub, there's a way to solve it ! ;)

Disabling ffdshow for Div3 GSPOT tells me its using DivXAntiFreeze (whatever that is)
Yep, I've been thinking about rencoding with vdub in perhaps XVid... but I'd like to see if I can solve this problem by the base of it first, before I rely on some 'extreme' measures as reencoding the video is.

which resolution has your video?

540*360

thats our problem!
the width of your video isn't modulo 8.
540/8=67.5!
a correct value would be 8*68=544 or 8*67=536
wideo sizes have to be a size in steps of 8 or 16 pixels. everything between that will make the video becaome garbage.

See how funny: I just reencoded it on XVID, and when I use a player such as BSPlayer or WMP, I get the same error as before. But when I use the latest version of DivX Player, it works fine... what's wrong then?

when it says that you are using "DivXAntiFreeze" i am sure you use a codec pack!? uninstall that first
uninstall ffdshow
than install divx3.11 (from doom9 download section) - div3 means that the video is encoded with divx3!
you dont have to install divx3.11 when you already have divx5 installed as divx5 can decode divx3 too...

I uninstalled ffdshow and at least the Xvid reencode did work on a regular player. May I miss something without ffdshow?

Seems like the problem was with the size. I resized the video while reencoding it and it worked perfectly on all players. The only thing is that when I reencoded I used XVid on quality 100, hoping to do a 2 pass, but during the beginning of the 2 pass, around 18%, Virtualdub tells me there was some kind of error, probably a video data corruption, and the pass is discarded.... what's going on?
