View Full Version : Big CPU load when playing subrip subs on both AVIs & MKVs with Gabest's VobSub.

When using subtitles in both AVIs (extern subs) and matroska files (intern subs), I get huge CPU loads in my system that make it impossible to playback any movie. I use Zoom Player 3.20 beta 3 with overlay mixer ON and DirectX 9. I use VSFilter 2.29. I have also tested previous versions of the filter (alwaus unicode versions; I also tested a non-unicode build of the 2.28 and the same problem happened).

The same problem appears when using Media Player Classic (latest version).

Its needless to say that all movies I have tested so far
worked OK without subtitles, so the problem lies within
VSFilter.

My sytem: PIII@800MHz, 384MB Ram, 60GB HD, Nvidia
GeForce2 MX 32MB TV Out, Windows XP Pro, Chipset
VIA Apollo Pro 133.

I've seen another thread about this issue, but it was
referred to the 2.26 version. It seems that the bug is
still in.

This seems a serious problem. Isn't there anybody experiencing the same?

Thanks.

I can partialy confirm that there is a problem as I have reported this as a bug in VSFilter a long time ago in the relevant Sourceforge project. For me the problem arises with OGM+Vobsubs and MKV+Vobsubs and always on XCDs. No problem here if the subtitles are .SRT only happens with vobsubs.

VobSub's cant be used in neither MKV nor OGM, so you must be talking about something else .....

Yeap, externals! There are times when one doesn't have enough time to produce an .SRT file with subrip and there are encodes I did not produce myself. It's probably a bug in VSFilter because the older directvobsub 2.23 works just fine, but because it is old it can not work for MKVs with embeded subs. So I have to keep changing them all the time.

Mosu said today on IRC that he will maybe have an alpha of mkvmerge ready until the weekend that will allow to mux vobsubs into MKV, so then there is no need to OCR them to SRT anymore, you can mux them as they are.

Unfortunately Gabest is missing in action somewhere, so there is nobody to update matroskasplitter.ax so we can play them  :scared: ....

Where is Gabest!?!?

I am content not to be the only one with this problem. If only Gabest should fix this... I have many videos to dump, and I want them in MKV...
