i read a lot of guides of this and none give me a good reason to do it,
i mean... a good hardware or software dolby pro logic decoder doesnt already do it?

It depends who you ask, I remix audio if I want to listen to music in 5.1, because IMO Dolby Pro Logic (II) upmix is more optimized for movies. On my system it sounds way too focused on the center channel for music, so I wanted a surround remix that focused on the front and rear channels, and I playback over s/pdif so it had to be reencoded to AC3, rather than using a filter like matrix mixer.

Why you ask ?
Because it sounds better !
Because we're searching for the ultimate replacement of the hardware repurpose method !
Because people have surround systems and want to use them !
Because people make DVD's from their own sources and want surround sound on them !
Because it's our hobby to get the best out of a 2 channels source !

Yes a hardware DPL gives an effect. But to call that 5.1 ??
And some receivers give another effect , like Yamaha's DSP with it's excellent implementation of hall, stadiums, disco, rock, jazz and.... whatever....

But.... IMHO nothing beats Ambisonics.....

And I don't have the money to buy a receiver with built in Ambisonics effects.... :(

Hi,

I want to report about the awesome results I got. I own an Eagles DVD. You can choose between DTS or PCM. I have expirmented on the song California Hotel (Acoustic version). Because I own the DVD, I downloaded a mp3 of this song and tried the guide. Unbelievable, you can hear the same effects as they come on the original DTS track as with the new encoded DTS sound. I don't know how, but it looks like the same. But however there is a but, and that is. In the original DVD I hear the BassTablets from Front Left, as with the encoding they come from Rear Right. As from the original DVD I get the hihats from Rear Right as from the Encoded they come from Front Left. Somehow it looks like the sound is swapped between the Speakers. The center and right front speaker also look to be just the way around. I had not much time for more analyzing. But the sound of the original DVD gives with the original speaker setting a better harmonic between the sounds.
My first thought is the setting of the Emigrator where you can set the conrolled opposites. But I may be wrong.

For your information.

I like these experiments, but...... with a but......

I don't think you should compare these two.
It's a bit what we want to avoid, because Ambisonics is a complete different system. The DTS or AC3 are only used here as containers for the format. Just like putting an old Quad album on DTS, doesn't make it DTS, it's still Quad !
Another thing is...... (IMHO !!) never use mp3's !!
An MP3 is a compressed format. You miss information when you put it back to WAV. Perhaps you don't hear it, but it can be essential information for the whole process.
About the difference from where you hear the sounds : It has , I think, nothing to do with emigrator. (That is : You did make the latest correction ??? Guide version 1.01 !) .
Mixing in stereo is complete different from mixing in DTS.
Ask Alan Parsons !!

make a little sample perhaps as MPEG or AVI, transcode the sound to ordinary PCM WAV and give the single existent methodes a try - may be you will (also) end at ambisonic ;)

CYA Daphy

PS: even with a Yamaha A2 the ambisonic methode is a lucky strike :D

Although I never did it, my answer is Yes !
Especially Ambisonics !
The sweet spot is very large, meaning when you watch your converted movies with a few friends, everyone can enjoy the sound to its limits.

But again , I would like to give you my standard answer :
Just try !!
You can judge for yourself what you like the most !
