By 50% I mean the resolution (the size).

Ok, have u right click when you play Window Media player and right click? You can choose zoom 50%, which make the screen half the resolution size. But I want to keep the 50% resolution as default.

In media player 2(mplayer 6.4) -> select view -> options ->Zoom -> 50%
To get it type mplayer2 in Run.

As it is avi it can be loaded easily in Virtual dub,Virtual dub mode etc .There for Run Vdub if u have (or D/L it from doom9's software page)open ur avi in it and select from video tab to FULL processing.Then Audio to direct streame copy.Take a look at the filters option and filter named resize.set the resolution there as your 50% one.Click ok.Then select compression u want if divx selectbitrate about 700kbps.And save the video in ur harddisk.
Or u can refer to Vdub/VdubMod Procedures where it is specified in detail.http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm :)

288x180 is one quarter (25%) the size of 576x360.
