I'm kinda new to DVD-ripping. However, I know some people who ripped dozens of DVDs using the latest techniques and I read the guides from doom9!
I'm having a problem making a DVD-Rip.

Before I start, I'd like to point that I used my "5-day probation period" to look really good into these forums and find a solution to my problem, yet, no luck so far!

My system:
Athlon XP 2700 with a Asus A7N8x deluxe (I use the integrated sound card)
Video card is a Nvidia GeForce4 VIVO 128Mo
HDD is a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 - 160GB 7200rpm SATA
DVD drive is a Pioneer DVD-120

I use Gordian Knot v0.28beta with systempack 1.0
I have AC3 filter 0.69b, ffdshow-20030523 and OggDS0995 installed!

Ok, now for what's wrong, here's what I did:
I used Robot4rip and followed doom9's guide for Xvid ripping and set it up as in the guide.
I ripped the DVD and obtained the VOBs and IFO, a d2v project file, my subs (in a rar file plus the idx) and my sound files in both AC3 and Ogg Vorbis (I set r4r to ogg).
So far, so good...
I then use GordianKnot to encode my video, and set everything as mentioned in the guide and use the Xvid codec, do my little test and setup the resolution!
Then I process with the job!... several hours later, I have an AVI file with no sound that's about 662Mo and still have my ogg sound that's 51Mo (which add up to my 1CD target of around 700Mo for the final file).
Still good, I think...

Finally, I use oggmux to remux the sound to my Avi... it processes the file as (I think) it should.

When I open my OGM resulted file, the video plays ok, but I get no sound!

I don't understand why... It's not a codec missing since I can play ogm files with ogg vorbis sound that my friend ripped with no problem.
Also, my ogg sound file plays ok before I remux, so it's not a problem with besweet or the audio encoding...

I tried to remux using Nandub and VdubMod, it does the same thing... no luck yet!

Please help me! I tried to be as precise as to what I did and which software/codecs/hardware I use... I'm sure someone has a solution for me. Thanks in advance for any help!
I tried to rip 3 DVDs using the same technique and it's always the same problem in the end...

Edit: Oh, by the way, when I put my ogm file in GSpot, I get this in the audio section: "Name: ogg_vorbis_1 (0x674f) Ogg Vorbis Status: Codec NOT installed! (Gspot was unable to find an audio codec which will decompress this format, DirectShow WAS able to render sound though, apparently by using multiple filters; See the directshow Render details for more info."

have you tried using a different player to playback the file?

I tried Windows Media Player, ZoomPlayer, Media Player Classic... all give the same results... It's definitely not a player issue to me!

1.Re-install oggds filter after uninstalling and shutdown.
2.If nothing happens i suggest to use virtual dubMod and the ogg in to Stream List and set to Direct stream Copy.Again same for video-direct stream copy. Then save as OGM.Try to play it.Sure u r gonna succed.;)

I'll try that tonight (I'm at work now...)

I did try VdubMod and nandub... but I did not try to shutdown the computer after uninstalling the oggDS filters before re-installing...

I doubt this'll change anything, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks for your input, I'll tell you if it worked.

Have u tried Ogg Mux_Nic?

Re-installing OggDS didn't work... Also, I tried to transfer the files to my other computer and the muxing still didn't work there...

However, I tried muxing the ac3 file (which I renamed wav and set the quality to 0 in oggmux as mentioned for ac3) and the ogm I obtained there did play sound. (it was over 1.5Go though... of course)

The problem comes from the ogg file itself. Even though it plays fine in winamp, there has to be a problem while transforming the ac3 file into a ogg vorbis file. Is there some other alternative to besweet to convert these audio files?

I'll try Ogg Mux_Nic tonight... I don't think my problem resides in the muxer since I was able to mux ac3 sound to my avi file into a working OGM.
I can only hope!

I tried OggMux_Nic, no luck with the ogg vorbis sound... I was able to mux a mp3 sound though, so I guess I'll stick with what I have and use mp3 sound (and lose about 30Mo to my video quality for the sake of having sound at all!)

Thanks for your help!
Next time I reinstall my system, I'll retry using ogg vorbis! (shouldn't be too long anyway...)

perhaps there is a problem with Robot4rip's ogg output

try oggmachine to produce the ogg vorbis from the ac3...

I tried that, but I ran into too many problems... I think a reinstall of my system is necessary for further investigation! I've tried too many codecs/versions to solve this... now it's all messed up! I can manage mp3 sound for now!
