Just exe release before I update full rip-pack. The changes are:
======================================
- GK uses decomb.dll version 5 and dgbob.dll version 1.6 (not included in rippack yet)
- Fixed resize problems when using VCD/SVCD settings as well as Fool CCE option for avisynth 2.5.x
- Fixed access violation error when trying to open AVI files (big thanks to Jeffster for testing and tHe gloCh for hints)
- Added last pass settings (useful for DivX 5.1 and higher), make sure that you enable this feature on options tab
- added language selection dialog for the first run of GK
- fixed path problems when doing autosplit of subs
- added tray icon when minimized
======================================
Please can those ppl who reqested the features or fixes make it's all working for them within next week, so that I can do full non-beta release.
Enjoy. :)
P.S. pay particular attention to the first change in .3 beta, i.e. new version of dgbob and decomb are requred to run it (if you use it of course).

We can read this in divx networks web site.
Question
Why does DivX 5.1 encode slower?
Answer
There's a simple explanation for this
Slowest mode in 5.05 = Standard mode in 5.1 (roughly).
In 5.1, Slow/Slowest modes implement a new algorithm, known as the rate distortion algorithm. Essentially, the RD algorithm squeezes higher quality still out of any given bitrate by carefully choosing frame and block types in order to save bits while encoding.
The quality improvements can be quite significant....
SORRY MY FRIENDS. I still with some problems to understand very well what means text below...
I had now downloaded a new decomb.dll version 5 and dgbob.dll version 1.6,...
but, i can not understand what to do...
...
A performance tip:
Do all but your last pass in Standard mode with the MV file enabled. Then, disable the MV file (this is imporant) and switch to Slow or Slowest mode for your final pass. If you use Psycho-vis then you can also disable it until your second-last pass as long as you disable the MV file at this point (e.g. if you're doing 4 passes, turn on PV and turn off MV in pass 3).
I intent to rip in two passes. GordianKnot 0.28.5.3 give me a new "Last Pass" button. I am already a old "First pass" and "Nth Pass" buttons.
DivX networks performance tip, give a example to 4 passes.
To encode in a 2 passes, what button in sequence do i have to press?
Am i leave MV enable or disable? When?
Am i leave PV enable or disable? When?
Thanks.

If you're using just two passes then don't enable last pass feature at all, since you can select different settings for second pass anyway. Last pass feature is useful only when doing three or more passes.
Regarding DivX 5.1 settings during two-pass encode: disable MV for both passes, enable PV for both passes. Just select slow/slowest mode for the second and normal for the first. That's it.

Thanks again for a fine (pre)release!!
No problems yet,......testing IVTC is so much fun:sly:
Cheers!

Yahe, thx for another step into a bright future of easy dvd-ripping :)
Tray-mode requested by me works like a charme, though I have one minor 'issue'... If in tray, you can't right-click on the icon to make gk close, open, etc. Would be nice if this could be implented, so it'll work similar to all other windows tray-icons.
Cheers, Digga.

I thought about it too, and eventually we'll come to that, but just this simple tray icon minimize/restore took soo much time to implement (but looks easy), so I was just happy when it finally worked without any bugs :)
P.S. all problems arose from the fact that XP has very nasty feature of preventing other windows from stealing focus and from the fact that GK has many windows, some of which has to stay "always on top" and some are modal windows (so that all the structure has to be preserved).

Thanks Len0x for ur good work.The tray icon found to be useful and may i ask what updates are made on rip/codec packs.Thanks once again .:D

All right, I'm happy the tray-function made it though, it's realy usefull in a-whole-lot-of-windows-opend-by-damn-IE-scenario :)
If someone ever finds the time and patience to give it another go, well, all the better.
btw, the icon deosn't look to bad, good job.

@len0x
Sorry to add to this, but I really want to make sure that I'm understanding this correctly. Is the following correct? For DivX 5.1 encodes:
Two passes
Uncheck "different last pass"
For First pass, disable MV
For First pass, enable PV
For First pass, set to Normal
For Nth pass, disable MV
For Nth pass, enable PV
For Nth pass, set to Slower/Slowest [change from 1st pass]
Nth-pass encoding
Check "different last pass"
For First pass, enable MV
For First pass, disable PV
For First pass, set to Normal
For Nth pass, enable MV
For Nth pass, enable PV [change from 1st pass]
For Nth pass, set to Normal
For Last pass, disable MV [change from Nth pass]
For Last pass, enable PV
For Nth pass, set to Slower/Slowest [change from Nth pass]
Is this right? This seems to be what I understand from reading the above. So, if doing multiple passes, you don't need to turn on PV on the first pass, but on the pass before the last past? True?

all right, tray icon again.
I don't wanna test your patience len0x, but... :D
I was wondering, would it be possible that you could choose what gk does when you minimize?
option 1: go to taskbar
option 2: go to tray
option 3: finish the rip in ten sec with never seen quality, write my next uni-paper and do the shopping (a.k.a. 'the kitchen sink switch');)
opt. 1 would be usefull for ppl with a already high number of tray-icons, so they don't add a n o t h e r one again.
opt. 2 would be usefull for ppl like me, that are sometimes running differnt windows during encodes, thus haveing not much space at the taskbar (so thx again for tray-mode).
if this is not easily implented, just forget about it;
but if it can be done with a justifying amount of work, it would add to the flexibility of gk as an app that fits everones needs.

@colordog
You right about two-pass encoding, but in three pass encoding you have to disable MV in the second pass, because you're using PV (which you didn't use before). The rule is: you can only use MV if settings of the current pass is identical to the previous one. (so either disable MV in the second pass or enable PV in the first)
Apart from that everything's correct.
@Digga
I'll see what I can do within next week :)

@Colourdog
If I were you... I would enable PV for all three passes (keeping the algorithm consistent).
Then, ENABLE MV for the second pass. You will benefit from a much greater speed increase than trying to leave PV off in the first. I don't personally like changing PV settings between passes because the compressibility of the movie changes with it.
Therefore...
1st pass - ENABLE PV, ENABLE MV, STANDARD
2nd pass - ENABLE PV, ENABLE MV, STANDARD (huge speed increase with MV re-use)
Same settings for 3rd, 4th, 5th if needed....
Last pass - ENABLE PV, DISABLE MV, SLOWEST (here, you cannot re-use MV as you have changed the RC algorithm and you want to re-create higher quality, better optimized motion vectors).

Thanks a million!! The changes are phenomenal! GK is becoming better and better, which I never previously thought was possible.
It is amazing how you are able to stay up-to-date with all the rapidly changing filters/codecs.

I didn't check the new beta verion but does it have the option to disable the picture and that graph for all passes in the Feedback window (divx 5.1)?

whole feedback window is disabled by default during comp test and when setting the defaults on option tab. if you enable it afterwards then you'll see it during encodings. but i don't think a particular option on that window are configuarble from registry...

Well, I can't :) The reason is that load stats button only suppose to work for comp test results (and were desinged for divx3.11 stats file originally) and you're trying to open first pass stats from xvid...
Search the forum for more information on this topic.

i understend but could to remove this popup ? i mean GK should check its is file from comp.check ,if its file from 1-pass do nothing or popup "This is file from 1-pass..."?

Check... How? I mean how can I know whether you're trying to open divx3.11 stats file, xvid comp test file or xvid first pass file?

Is it possible to make the divx5.1 feedback window not to show the picture and graph by default? I want it just for the pause button... and don't want a performance drop...

I quickly browsed through the registry settings for divx 5.1 and couldn't find anything apart from just disabling whole feedback window. So the answer is no...

@ lenox:
just downloaded gk 0.28.6 and checked out the new tray icon :D
restore works fine, but exit doesn't work at all (on WinXP).
if you got some time, please consider to have a look at that.
otherwise everything looks good so far, nice work.

Is the "DVD2AVI" button on the Ripping tab supposed to open the newest supplied version of DVD2AVI? (DG?) Because, it seems to be opening the older one.

Are you sure that it's not the icon that just stay there ? :)
(Actually I'm sure that it is - application is closed anyway. If you move mouse of the icon - it disappears, right?)
@Colordog
You have to manually adjust the path, since only new installations of GK (with no registry settings) will point to the new one
P.S. Can we move all new discussions about 0.28.6 in the main forum please...

if you get some spare time ITF you might want to try 5.1, it's a bit better IMO, in terms of quality. just my two cents.
