A LOT of people have been having problems getting besweet to encode, transcode,etc an ac3 file(or mp3)that has the same levels as the orginal source.

WELL, with experimenting i found that this worked.. the sound was similar(if it is off, its maybe off my 1db or less) and the surround was muxed down to 2 channels---i tested the final and compared on my stereo.

here are my settings and the log file (not i only tested the first about 9 min.. which is all that need be done...How do you do this..? Just force the program to quit transcoding forceably.

(im not sure what all the crap is down below.. but whatever it is it WORKS>>>!!!)

ok here's an update on my experiment


Not all the settings can be stadardized.. as anyone who knows anything about dolby digital knows.

However, i suggest people DO read the stickies here. Read READ READ!!!.. and read again.

Now experiment. You can always play with settings and since most movie audio tracks will have proper content in the first 4-5min of the movie that will let you test out your settings(compare from source[dvd or ac3 track]and your test file) I tried some settings and it killed the center channel completely. Then i tested other settings and it was back and perfectly sync with levels and surround information. As for the question that (actually fact) lower bitrates tend to yeild lesser levels... this seems to be true, but just boost the gain... (ive boosted the gain by as much as 13db...it seems like a lot but it was nessasary.) or if you are scared that you will create clipping.. render the file then open it in an audio editing program and look at the headroom you have... (most audio editors will show you how far below 0db you are.. you want to never hit that 0db wall..but get about as close as possible you can to it.(in the loudest part of the movie).. i shoot for about 3db down from the 0db wall..

Ok not all newbies will understand what i mean.. but if you experiment more you just may.. and maybe this will help you out.
