Sure. There are a couple of utils I have used at times to record from whatever my computer sees, or "hears", without having to specify a process to record from. One is Totalrecorder, which I think has a demo out there you can test. Another was camtasia I believe. Basically you need a tool which can record whatever is being played by the system, just like something like camtasia can record whatever is shown on the screen, not just a process.
Hope that helps.

I would have to say it's easier than it looks... First, I would recommend downloading Audacity which is free at sourceforge:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Make sure YOU GET 1.0.0! The recording on the latest is not as great and crisp as the first version for some reason.
From there you can select the recording device (right by the mic volume), choose "Stereo Mixer" than hit the record button in Audacity. It will record whatever is happening on your computer, so make sure you turn off anything that will emit a noise--like Instant Messenger. You don't want someone IMing (b/c of noise) when your recording in the middle of a song (happened to me before lol).
Also under Windows Equalizer I would make sure under Playback options that "Wave" is set to 40%. If not, your music will crack.
