A couple of months ago, I bought the complete first season of "The Simpsons" (I guess the PAL version since I bought it in Argentina) on a boxed DVD set. As you guys know, its quality doesn't even deserve to be qualified as mediocre.
What I intend to do is rip the DVDs, filter and reencode the video, and lastly burn an exact copy of my original discs (but with the enhanced video) on three DVD-Rs. Is this possible? If so, could someone point me to info on how to do it?

(note: don't worry about recommending me filters for the cleaning up, I'll ask that in the proper section of this forum).

Well I'm inclined to think garbage in, garbage out, but anyway...

As you are applying filter's I'll presume you will be using avisynth/CCE. If you want to replicate the original DVD's structure then you may want to use DoItFast4U/DoCCE4U/ReAuthorist.

There are guides for this stuff on the main page, the forums are more for posting specific issues that aren't covered in the guides :)

Actually, I will use avisynth+TMPG. I don't know why so much people here prefer CCE. Maybe you could point me to a thread where this issue is explicitly discussed? I don't knowt what to put on the search engine in order to find such a thread.

Anyway, I am only starting to learn the ways of re-authoring, I'd be grateful if you could tell me exactly where to start looking, be it threads from the forum or guides in the main page.

I'd be looking at these guides to start:

"DVD-9 -> 1 DVD±R - AKA REAL backups ;)

Quality over Speed (using CCE)
- using DVDMaestro - by Trilight, last updated 07/21/02
- using Scenarist NT - last updated 05/15/03
- using Scenarist NT, advanced procedures - last updated 05/15/03
- using Scenarist NT & the big 3 (DoItFast4U, DoCCE4U & ReAuthorist) - last updated 05/28/03"

In terms of the specifics of your case it depends on the DVD structure. What I was getting at was that you should try the guides and if you run into troubles replicating the specific structure you face (they can vary quite a bit from DVD to DVD) then post with details. Otherwise it's a bit like saying "can you help me fix my car?" without outlining the problem :)
