I am trying to author lord of the ring 1 ripped fron NTSC DVD......
the average Bit rate of the movie : 8400 kbit/s
the max. : 9800 kbit/s
after doing every thing in the meastro, adding m2v, ac3 and subtitles.... configuring menus.... then i started compiling
it compile the menus but when it comes to the main movie it stop for a while then the prog. closed without any messege.......
the menus are encoded on 5000 kbit/s......

is the problem is due to the bit rate of the movie so i need to reduce it, or there is other thing that make that problem.....
i am working on windows xp and 2000 with the same problem.....

if u don't have any faults on your hd, the problem is likely the high bitrate u r using. Not because of the muxing and going over the max bitrate of a dvd, that is 10.08mbs but to the size of the final title set that is crossing the 4.3gb. LOTR 1 is a long movie and in order to shrink it to fit in a dvdr u mustn't go over 3500kbits for the video and thats only if u have one audio and one subtitle stream.

If you talk about the size of the project, the size of the files i used are:
m2v : 2 GB
english (6ch).ac3 : 570 MB
english (2ch).ac3 : 244 MB

so the total size of the project which DVDMeastro record is around 3.20 GB.........

I checked everything until i found the reason.........
the problem is from the subtitle that i created by MeastrSBT.....
when i remove it from the project .... everything is ok
but when i added .... the program stop.........

what is the relation i do not know, but i wanna ask if the sub has different aspect ratio like 16:9 and the movie is 4:3 .... it will make that problem.......

There's no provision in the .son file for aspect ratio, so subs aren't linked to aspect ratio (unless you fiddle around with stream mapping options or something).

Aspect ratio issues would only cause the subs to be badly placed, if that (where there are different subs mapped to the different aspect ratios, I actually prefer using the widescreen subtitles in 4:3 letterbox mode as they are placed inside the black bars).

Anyway, the point is, that would be a non-issue.

I did have an issue recently where I had 17 or so subtitle tracks and Maestro reported the bitrate to be too high when it wasn't - the video and audio streams were losslessly extracted from the original DVD, and a couple of foreign language tracks had been left out. Anyway, deleting a couple of subs (copyright messages as it happened) at the start of one or two of the subtitle streams fixed the problem.

Given such oddities, it may be hard to get an exact fix :\

ok i will try..........
but there is a problem with the sub ripped from original DVD when imported in DVDMaestro...........
some sub are badly corrupted and are not readable like a scratch on the screen...........
i am using subrip to take my sub from DVDs..........

Oh weird, well here's an alternative...

I noticed recently that subrip is inaccurate (7 frames off or so from memory), so now I use gabest's vsrip.exe to create idx/sub and vsconv.exe to make Maestro bitmaps out of the idx/sub. Those are both command-line, the GUI versions are vobsub/subresync.

That's because you ripped to a smaller resolution, DVDMaestro has problems with that... use the max resolution. in subrip when starting, he wil ask for size, cropping etc.. it's there...

Is it also with other projects???
It depends on the build.. what build nr do you have???
i have sometimes the same but it gives an std error in XP. reload dvdmaestro and project, then it works...

de.lesse.bg, when I used SubRip I ripped to a smaller resolution (default settings I think) and had no troubles whatsoever.
