Hi, this could be a silly question, but I cannot answer myself:
only a few times I've seen one-layer-disc. Almost all dvds I own are dual layers and need to be compressed to get a backup copy.
Why are not there d.l. dvd writers ??. Technical or commercial reasons ???
Thanks.
Joe

sorry, i didn't really understand what you were trying to say here. are you saying that they're testing dual layer writers? dual layer media would be expensive. dvd 9's are pressed and writable discs aren't which would make for very complex creation of these blank dual layer discs. i've never seen why it would be impossible though. if dual layers can be read, they can surely be written, just a different type of laser that needs to focus on either layer.

I know they have acheived 1.4GB of data on a normal 700MB cd-r and I read somewhere that the HD-BURN technology was being designed and tested on dvd media as well. I can not remember the site name and do not know if it will ultimately come to pass. But Oh well, Blu-Ray is on the way...
Found this HERE (http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/news_sanyo_hdburn_2002_09_25.htm)
With regard to the recording application software, the "B's Recorder GOLD" (BHA) and the "Nero" (AHEAD) will support "HD-BURN". Can easily use "HD-BURN" recording by the use of Video authoring feature and DVD Video recording feature using the above application software.
