I think I made a mistake when encoding but I got the coolest little video clip. Let me descibe what happened. I have been working on a five minute DV encode to divx5 and it wasn't working the way I wanted. I tried the compressabilty test for the first time and then pressed save and encode and started the conversion. It went very fast. I almost deleted the resulting 10MB clip but when I viewed it it was really neat. Some how GK compressed the whole 5 minute clip into 17 seconds. The 17 seconds happened to be the length of audio clip that was appended to the beginning of the movie. It looked a comercial on TV flashing through all of my scenes almost in rythym with the audio. Im glad i didnt delete it. I want to save this portion and make this the new starting of my clip. I have posted the GK log file. If any one can explain what I did and perhaps tell me how to do it again I would be really happy. After i finished i looked at the encoding tab of GK and a box is red under the (Bits/(Pixel*Frame) portion it says 633% 0f .527 compressibility test.

Thanks in advance,

VC

Hi again-

You just encoded the compress test .avs. Look at the bottom of the .avs. Do you have the line:

SelectRangeEvery(280,14)

That encodes 5% of the movie to give you an idea of its compressibility, to help you choose the resolution and file size to aim for. It encodes 14 frames of every 280 frames (5%) throughout the entire video. So if you actually encode using it, it looks like you're getting brief snatches of the whole thing. The fact that the music kept time with all that jumping around is coincidental.

it says 633% 0f .527 compressibility test.

That tells you that the file size you're aimimg for (1 CD, I believe) is unreachable. You want to aim for 60-75% or so. So reset the size from 700 MB down to 80 MB or so. If you ever want to recreate such a thing, just make sure that the SelectRangeEvery line is in there. If you want to encode, say, 10% of the video, then change it to:

SelectRangeEvery(280,28)

And if you want to then encode the complete video, just comment it out.
