Hi I am trying to copy a avi file on to a dvd-r disk. I have been able to make vcd disks with avi2vcd but I can't get anything to burn to dvd-r. I think my movies are converted to mpeg1 I think from reading forums that I need to convert to mpeg2. The programs I have to work with are dazzle complete, avi2vcd,windows movie maker, and my burning rom is veritas record now dx ver.4. If anyone can give me any tips I would be much appreciative.

I did read the faq's and searched the forums. didn't find what i'm looking for. I am not willing to spend money on something like tmpgenc. i used it for a while and it wasn't that great.

Well AFAIK there is no free way of encoding MPEG-2. So you will either need Tmpegenc, Canopus Procoder or CCE.

try the demo(tmpgenc), if you hate it, you knew you didn't waste a single penny on it; if you love it, go ahead and purchase it.

@dani82:
I think mikenshelly wrote that he (they?) did try the demo, and didn't care for the tool.
@mikenshelly:
bbMPEG is freeware that has the capability to encode MPEG-2. I've never used it for that purpose, only for muxing and splitting MPEG-2 streams. I do not know if it can demux.
