I come to doom9's main page almost every day to catch up on the latest news. However I find it a bit annoying that the links to news about the RIAA actions point to theregister.co.uk, which is an opinion site, not a news site.

A quote from their latest article (on the 12 year old girl getting sued for sharing mp3's with Kazaa)

Earlier in the day, Brianna complained of stomach pains and emotional suffering as a result of the RIAA's actions. After signing the soothing settlement, however, she expressed regret at having harmed the precious artists.

It's okay, Brianna, don't worry. Fox manufactures new artists every few months. The new ones won't know that you committed the naughty act of trying to listen to their music.

The pigopolists no doubt prepared a contingency plan should any toddlers, pre-teens or bedridden seniors get caught in their web of lawsuits. Alarm bells must have sounded in the swine cave when word of Biggie Brianna got out. A number of news outlets rushed to tell the story of the honors student gone wrong.

This may be amusing, but frankly I would prefer news links to point to more reliable and neutral news sites. I can read vitriolic opinion and columnists ranting about what ticked them off that day everywhere, but real news value is far off in those theregister opinion pieces.

Every news feed has an editorial line. It reflects the owner's thinking and interests. Some news feed have opinions, some have trivia, some have a personal taste.

There is nothing bad on disliking the style of the news published. Just don't read the pointers you dislike.

I guess that just not everybody is pleased all the time.

well.. the whole stomach pain bit actually came from neutral news publications.. the editor just painted it a bit more colorfully. I like thereg a lot.. they're not afraid to paint the entire picture, and that's why I often link to their stories, containing comments that I myself dare not to voice. I'm not universally liked as it is and it's no use trying to make new enemies (some things I have to say about certain monopoly organizations are not printworthy).

My question is, why do we need comments/news about the RIAA/MPAA with nearly every update? Yeah, they're "evil" - we get it already. No need to bash everyone over the head with it. If I want to be preached at, I'll go to church.

well.. what RIAA and MPAA are doing is starting to affect important parts of freedoms we take for granted. What are YOU doing against it? I at least can remind people of what's really going on and remind them to not just sit still and let your freedoms be taken away. And important part of why I'm putting important parts of my free time without any reasonable compensation into running this site is because I don't want the let those organizations getting away with abolishing our rights. And keeping your mouth shut if you see wrong things going on is just as fatal as supporting them.

As for preaching, I beg to differ. If there's any new development on RIAA or MPAA lawsuits, that IS news, not a sermon. As it has already been mentioned, every news feed is somewhat influenced by the people making it, and you're not forced to read any thereg articles (or my news for the matter), are you? Yes, there is personal opinion in my news items, but the largest part is still plain old facts.

Please remember to ask for our freedom not to be taken away in your prayers. Although I guess the Lord has more important things to care about and on this one we are on our own.
