I recently instaled a verbatim dvd burner which came with nero express 5.5 and i could not get it to work right so i downloaded nero 6 demo but am still having problems with spontaneous reboots and errors when rencoding and burning backups i ripped with smartripper. I have turned off screen saver and NAV in hopes of increasing stability. Is there anything else i should try? Is there a reccomended software which is better than nero or any other way to increase stability?

Hi-
Is anything overclocked? If so, maybe try overclocking less. Are the RAM settings tweaked? If so, maybe try loosening up the settings. And you might try running Prime95 on the CPU and Memtest86 on the RAM to test for stability.
By the way-what's your max ripping speed with that Artec 16x DVD-ROM? I have the same one and it maxes out at around 5x with DMA enabled, even though I read one review where the guy said he got almost the full 16x.

I am running stock speeds no overclocking. i have run memtest and memory is ok. my artec dvd rom maxes out in the single digits. On BSOD last night i read , bad_pool_caller , the BSOD disappears before i can read all of it. does windows keep a log of these? i suspect i may have a corrupted file or driver in OS. Is there a diagnostic tool to check for that? What about reinstalling windows xp without losing your data? is that feasable?

are you trying to use Nero to re-encode? Maybe I misunderstand and if so apoligize, but, IMHO, it is better to transcode and re-author with just about any other program (dvdshrink and then use nero to burn the finished product. Lots of guides on Doom9 site to point you in the right direction. If I am incorrect ignore me.
