Thx to those that have replied so far...Many of these guides seem to have elements that might work for me. I was able to convert the video and AC3 audio to 23.976 Fps, but I seem to need these to be 29.97 for true dvd creation. I cannot find a specific answer to do this...would this be an avisynth job? What about the AC3 audio? Does this need to be changed as well? I am using AC3 machine to take the AC3 from pal(25fps)to 23.976 hoping that everything will still synch. I am planning on using TMPGencoder and dvd author and burn the muxed file with Nero6.
Every guide uses a different method to do things similar, but not exactly what I'm trying to do.
Again, any pointers or tidbits of information is deeply appreciated.

Demux the audio and video (I assume you have already done that.) In tmpgenc load the ntcs dvd template. Don't use the wizard. This will give you a dvd compliant ntsc video file. I thought ac3 machine had an option to transcode to 29.970, but I could be wrong. I know BeSweet has that option. After all file conversion and in dvdauthor move the slider to various points in the movie to check out sync. This is the method I use the most. It works for me. You will occasionally run across one that requires more drastic action.

hi,
this method does return compliant video, but is unfortunately far from optimal (if ever there is). honestly i do not work with tmpeg, but usually these 'automatic' conversions, simply add or drop frames and crop/resize to achieve the desired format. while this is perfectly ok for the specs it costs you a lot of detail/quality.
apart from that, this method only works for progressive material, so no interlaced sources :)
@Lestat: This 'problem', and I must admit that it is one of the worst documented around here, has been widely discussed in the avisynth forum. provided you feel up to the task of doing it, it sure is the best way to do.

Since u have the video to 23.976fps its very easy to move it up to 29.97 for dvd compatibility. The procedure is called 3:2 pulldown and there r hundred of posts about it in the dvd authoring forum.
Download the pulldown.exe from doom9's download section, read the readme file and u r one command away from your goal.
I want delve into much detail here, since I am sure u would want to search the relevant posts and understand the procedure.
This guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/pulldown.htm) here is a must read.

OK, since you have the video and AC3 already converted to the 23.976 fps, all you need to do is run pulldown on your mpeg video file. Get the free PULLDOWN.EXE utility, run pulldown on your encoded video, then use the output from that as your source for TMPGEnc DVD Author. I've done this three times now and it works great.
